the 2008 summer games in beijing are just not feasible at the moment.

that is all. ;)

the venues for the 2008 games are amazing. the discovery channel was running an episode about beijing construction sites with focus on the 2008 olympics.

the olympic stadium: the birds nest - awesome

the diving and swimming venue (made of bubbles): awesome

Are the opening ceremonies going to be live? Just been thinking that they are six hours ahead of us, so if so that means they are starting the ceremony at 2 am?

If not live, do they have agreements with other channels not to broadcast results?

I am looking forward to skeleton, luge and bobsled.

I think everything is on a delay, just as it was in Athens. I have to admit I cheated and looked at the Olympic website for results in 2004 for events such as the gymnastics. Watching on a tape delay is too suspensful.

We have to TiVo tonight. There is a hockey game, and I already missed three because of my fall. Not going to miss another one!

I did see that the Primetime will repeat in the early morning hours. I need to sit down and look at the schedule so I make sure if I don't see it, I TiVo it.

PS - I also cheated to look at the gymnastic scores...not only could I not wait, but they didn't show hardly any of the competition!

I'm already being bad. I looked online for the description of the opening ceremonies and saw some video of it. I don't like time delays :P

Me too.

i'm really excited!! i've always loved watching the olympics - i have even decided to not go to a v-day party tonight, just to watch the opening ceremony! (wow, i'm lame! hahaha)

All in all not a bad opening ceremony... loved Pavarotti's performance  but Peter Gabriel wasn't looking all that well doing Imagine

CutiePie2000 02-11-2006 02:26 AM

Canada has a hard act to follow for the Opening Ceremonies for 2010.

I only that we take a lead from the Italians and for the Opening Ceremonies of 2010, use "cool" Canadian entertainment (which is, sadly, all too rare) such as Cirque du Soleil and don't embarrass ourselves with the likes such as those mugging fools, The Barenaked Ladies, etc.....oy....

AOIIalum 02-11-2006 09:03 AM

I thought the opening ceremony was kind of weird in the beginning, but everything post-marching was neat. Was shocked to see Yoko, though. Gabriel looked okay to me, he's just getting older (like the rest of us). Pavarotti was awesome.

Best thing was the torch lighting. Now, THAT was cool.

AGDee 02-11-2006 09:17 AM

That torch lighting was so cool, I had to watch it twice. This is the best thing about living in Detroit.. the CBC on Channel 9 and then NBC on our local channel 4. The Canadian channel was showing the opening ceremonies an hour prior to NBC. So, I watched it all in Canadian (even though the announcer didn't know how to pronounce Susan Sarandon) and then watched the last hour AGAIN on NBC :)

I liked the women presenting the Olympic flag. Those were some incredible role models involved in that. I think it's incredible to see some countries who sent one person to compete, like Grandma Luge. How amazing for that person to represent their country???

AznSAE 02-11-2006 09:41 AM

i enjoyed the opening ceremony. best dressed went to whichever country that was wearing the long baige corduroy-looking jackets. it was an "s" country, i think it was slovenia, not sure though. the people turning themselves on the floor to resemble a skier was pretty cool. also the dove. all in all, it was awesome.

the one thing i like about the olympics is when they take an athlete before a competition starts and do a little biography/tribute about them.

oh yeah, i am also rooting for countries with one-man athletes.
