Still, a smaller portion of a cereal you actually LIKE, paired with fruit or other lower-cal snacks, is always a better bet than forcing yourself to eat something you hate the taste of but eat just because it's healthy. That said, there isn't really a radical difference in the sugar content between Go Lean and Strawberry Fields (6 g versus 9 g) -- they are both pretty much smack in the middle of the sugar range for breakfast cereals, much higher than, say, Cheerios but lower than the sugar-packed stuff like Frosted Flakes. The major difference is the fiber. |

If you're going to have it with yogurt, buy the Greek stuff. It's pretty much pure yogurt w/o sugar. You can drizzle a little honey on it to make it sweeter if you must.

I agree with the putting yogurt on your cereal...it's good that way! I'm one of those weird people who actually like the taste of plain (non-sugary) yogurt, but I've heard people say that even though they didn't like it at first they got used to it after a while.
I looked at the Kashi cereal in my neighborhood grocery store, but I never tried it because it's hella expensive in there. If you're looking for a cereal that's healthy for you that doesn't taste like tree bark, why not try plain old bran flakes or something? I usually buy the store brand ones because I like them, but if you want some with a little "flavor" you can get the Kellogg's Complete (or whatever it's called--it's in an orange box). They're not bad at all. |

Bananas sliced up in milk make cereal really good and last longer / be more filling... I sometimes do it with cheerios. Put a few banana slices on top, and when you finish those and the cereal, slice up the rest of the banana and eat that in the milk. Yummy!

Re: Yogurt
The first time I tried fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt, I didn't know you had to stir it up. Ugggh. Shudder.

Bumping this up because after experimenting with all different kinds of Kashi stuff, I have found some good stuff.
The Go Lean crunch is good with yogurt (thanks for the people who said that). The granola bars are ok, but a bit tough. I like the Heart to Heart ok, but it was a little plain. I have never found the Strawberry Fields anywhere around me, but my normal store just started carrying the Cinnamon Harvest, which I tried for the first time today - that's what I'm talking about. It's a little higher in sugar (but not too sweet) but still has some good nutrition..and they're softer then most other Kashi stuff. I think after long last, I have finally found my cereal. |
I loves me the Heart to Heart. I think it's perfect!
Unfortunately, I can't find it too often in the area we just moved to. However, they do have a new one with bran flakes and bluberry clusters. Mmm, mmmm good! The blueberries make the milk taste yummy! I wasn't a fan of the Strawberry Kashi, but the blueberry has different flakes and the fruit is better. |
