I guess you can't turn new member into a verb, but I find the terminology for the pin interesting.
In DPhiE, we finally decided that our new members "affilliate" or participate in new member orientation. I've had to resist the urge to say they are "orienting" or "new membering." :)

Our pin is a "new member pin."

My head is now spinning from reading this forum and all these terms!

I think I gave myself a headache.

We also switched to NM pin to replace pledge pin

but I don't know about how you replace the verb 'pledge' I guess affiliate works but... I just like pledge more, cause technically you are pledging yourself to an org, affiliate seems like less of a bond. I'm just glad I'm not active, makes it a little easier :D

Re: Manual of Information

OK, I thought ya'll were just kidding around with the "manual of information" thing.. and then I followed the link to the NPC website, and it really IS "the manual of information!"

Yes, it's all interesting! Pledging is now something you do (as in sign a pledge to be loyal to the organization), not something that you are.

the COR and CR stuff is what is getting to me now!

What I find interesting is that our chapter is so bent on getting used to using the new terms, if you say:
"rush" instead of "recruitment" or
"pledge" instead of "new member" or
"pledge class" instead of "new member class,"
it's $.50 from your pocket to a jar in the kitchen.

Difference between COB/COR and CR

As I understand it there is a difference between COB/COR and CR.

COB (Continuous Open Bidding) and COR (Continuous Open Recruitment) are used interchangeably. This is a process used by chapters at schools with formal or fully-structured recruitment when they have spots they need to fill. COb/COR refers to events that take place outside formal recruitment but formal recruitment DOES happen at that campus.

CR (Continuous Recruitment) is a style of recruitment endorsed by NPC (the three styles are fully structured, partially structured and continuous recruitment) whereby recruitment is a continuous process for all groups on campus. Formal recruitment does not exist on that campus at all.

Hope that makes sense!

If I read the article in The Crescent correctly I thought they were replacing the term Continuous Open Recruitment with Continuous Recruitment.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

There was definite confusion about that...

which is why NPC adopted another resolution last year changing COR to CR, and clarifying that CR is a recruitment style, NOT intended to replace the term COB. COB is still alive and healthy, CR is one of the recruitment styles, and COR is used for whatever purpose anyone wants to use it for!
