http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif Girl, please. PLEASE! LOL! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Just because she is a superstar doesn't make her any different from any other woman. I know PLENTY women who have this same problem (some with the drug aspect, some without), the only difference is they aren't famous. Girl, SHE LOVE HIM!!! You ain't know? He's the KING OF POP! (now, being the diehard MJ fan that I am, I was too through with her after that statement.) She'll find her way back, I hope. I really do. I hope she's not our Billie Holiday.

As I read your post, I couldn't help thinking that perhaps that is the reason (beyond her musical accomplishments) for her receiving such an honor. BET could have chosen to honor the likes of an Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, etc. But they chose to honor Whitney. Now, it may just be for the ratings...but a part of me thinks that it may be because of her drug use and fear that she, like Lady Day, will pass away before her time.

Now, I'm not trying to instill gloom, but it's something to ponder a bit.

I may be wrong, but as I remember it, during the MTV and I think Soul Train awards last year, she crowned him the "Original King of R&B" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

She has problems, but she won't be able to get herself right until (1) she admits that she has a problem and (2) wants to get help. She can't save Bobby, but she can try to change herself for the better.

It was that special honoring Clive Davis, the former CEO of Arista Records. He now presides over J Records...

Whitney clearly hasn't hit rock bottom. Most drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs tell you that you must hit your rock bottom before you try to kick the habit for good. I don't think she's hit her bottom yet, and therefor, will likely remain intoxicated....but then again her mother is Cissy Houston..believer and Gospel artist. I'm sure her mother's knees are bruised and her floor well worn from her calling out to God's ear on Whitney's behalf...she may be healed!

At any rate..I digress....what do you all think that this does for BET...does awarding Whitney Houston make them look even less credible or what? Can you really honor an artist distinct from the person.

I'm concerned because of the message it may send. I love Whitney and her voice. I sincerely pray that she is able to get through her addictions and poor surroundings and see the light. I am just pondering the message that we are sending. Are we awarding Whitney Houston the Artist or Whitney the Person and how do we do one without allowing one aspect to overshadow the other.

the message it might send is that despite obstacles whitney has stayed on top of her music and is...despite her personal issues...one of the GREATEST artists of ALL time...undisputed...she is now into producing ...despite the ongoing drama...and will probably excel at that too...so i feel it is much deserved... http://www.plauder-smilies.de/sad/ponder.gif

yes...this generation is more perceptive than some give them credit for...and though we are sometimes desensitized by the media and drug abuse and drama are glorified...i think that young people will understand that message very clearly...that biz is very rough for us...and she deserves all the accolades brought her way...

I saw a movie preview last night for "The Princess Diaries" starring Julie Andrews. In the credits it listed Whitney as its producer. I wasn't aware that she was producing this movie! The previews seem impressive so far (especially with Julie Andrews as part of the cast!).
