Lady Pi Phi 01-06-2004 12:27 AM

Well first day was rough. I had a little slip this evening. I ate more points than I was alotted because I had a low blood sugar (I'm a diabetic).
I have to start adjusting my insuling to meet my food intake now, because obviously I'm eating less. I was a little hungry during the day too. I need to make sure I have 0-point snacks on hand (maybe some cuccumber?).
I'm going out for dinner tomorrow. That's going to be difficult.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

The first week is always the most difficult, IMO, but after you get used to it it's not so bad. Don't be afraid to eat at the top range of your points for the first few days. How are you spacing out your foods? This is what I do:

Breakfast: 3-5 points
Mid-morning snack: 2-3 points
Lunch: 5-7 points
Mid-afternoon snack: 2-3 points
Supper: 5-8 points

Drinking lots of water helps keep you filled, and if you exercise, you can eat a few more points (I think the max is 5?) or save your points from one day to the next. Is there any info in the books about adjusting points for diabetics? (I don't remember, it's been a while since I've really read through them).

Good luck, we're all here for you!

Good luck! Everyone knows that if they want to go out to dinner with me, it has to be at a restaurant on www.dwlz.com or Subway. I've become a pill about eating out - but I don't care because WW works!

It's not a diet, its a way of life. Pretty soon, you'll start to realize that your old portions were huge and how much food your body was meant to have.

Planning is key. Plan your points tomorrow so you can enjoy your dinner out.

Are you working on the "old" points system where you have a daily range? Or are you on FlexPoints? If you're on flex, you have 35 "extra" points to use over the course of the week. I felt I had the best results when I didn't use many, or any at all, but the're a nice cushion to have for when you slip up.

I'm working on the FlexPoints system. I did use a few o my flex points yesterday, but I definitly have enough to eat out, although I'm going to try and not use too many of my flex points on tonights dinner.

There isn;t any info on the book about diabetics, so I'm going to bring it up with my leader at the next meeting.

i feel like this is the story of my life! i've recently gotten myself back to the meetings b/c i feel like i do so much better when other people say what i weigh as opposed to when it's just me checking. although, my actually staying at the meetings depends on the leader and the other people there. sometimes they just annoy me to death and i sneak out!

Damn! I am so hungry right now, but I don't have anything I can snack on, and I am using all my will power not to go to the vending machine and get a bag of chips

ISUKappa 01-06-2004 05:17 PM

Do you have any water to drink? Even diet colas are okay (as long as you don't drink like 10 every day). I gave in and had another (very tiny) piece of birthday cake, but I'm also going to the gym tonight. That justified it for me.

You can do eet! :D

Lady Pi Phi 01-06-2004 05:18 PM

Yeah I have water and diet cola. I find that water doesn't fill me up.

Maybe I'll just chew on some gum till I go home and make dinner.

Only one more hour of work.

I am on Weight Watchers, and I love it.

However, I missed several meetings because I was on vacation and went off program. I am not sure if I am still a member or I have to rejoin next week. I am really not looking forward to the weigh in, but I have to go and face it.

Lady Pi Phi,
Welcome and Good Luck! Here is the Weight Watchers site for Canada:
www.weightwatchers.ca You should also consider becoming a registered user of their site for free (they also have a subscriptions, but that has a monthly fee). That way you can access their community boards and meet fellow WWs.
Hope this helps!

It varies from center to center, but I think you have to re-join if you've missed more than one month (4 weeks) worth of meetings.

If getting to meetings is difficult for you, ask your center about the Liberty Plan, where you only have to weigh in once a month. I wish this was available in my area. :(

Best zero-point snack for when you're craving something salty - DILL PICKLES!!! (umm... that is, if you like them). When I was on WW I ate them all the time when I was craving chip/pretsels/salt.

AHHHHH my feet are too big for those shoes. I've tried...no joke like fifty pairs of them on....none of them fit right or look good. I've resigned myself to wearing cute heels from now and to forever :( :( :(

I'm actually doing a lot better. It's getting easier. Now my biggest problem is that of my low blood sugars. I started taking less insulin at night but I'm still going low, and I ate a good dinner which should have kept my sugars up. I'm still trying to figure out the right balance. Right now, when I go low I'm not too concerned with going over my points or having a little something extra to eat because I would rather gain some weight than slip into a coma.

My grandmother lost tons of weight on weight watchers. It's kind of funny now. She'll tell me how many "points" everything I eat is. I quiz her sometimes.

It's pure entertainment.

ISUKappa 01-08-2004 01:35 PM

ktsnake

I do that now. It's sad, I'll go through the store and mentally calculate how many points each thing I'm buying is. My hubby gets a kick out of it.

Lady Pi Phi
How are you doing today? I gave up yesterday because I was sick, but I'm trying to be good today.
