Ehhhh....I'm going to agree with most people on here, and say that it might not be the best idea. My ex was only 1 year younger than me, and the immaturity issue was huge!! We were always in different places in our lives-and that was just a 1 year difference!!

Plus-like, what are you going to do on Friday nights?? Go to the mall?? (I say that in all joking :) ) Seriously, you can do tons of things he can't-drink, go clubbing, vote-maybe even stay out past 11:00 pm. if you live in a place with an imposed curfew. And it would suck to always be doing these fun things wihtout the person whom you care about.

And for real-stagitory (sp??) rape is not even funny...people will prosecute...

I agree with ChiOJenn78. What its it worth to you while you're sitting in jail for statutory rape? Find a man your own age and forget about him!

update...

So Matt and I hung out and talked all day...

We agreed that it would be best for now to just put things on the back burner. Because we are both in staff/leadership positions, we need to remain professional. A year from now when he starts college, we can see what happens then. Also, this puts less of a strain on our friendship.

Also, this fall is what I call the "suicide semester," where I'm taking 16 credits, working three jobs, etc. I'm not going to have time for a boyfriend my own age!

So thanks guys, for all the advice. It helped me put things in perspective instead of just going into a relationship blindly.

Fuzzie_Alum, I always thought better of you. You deliberately took my post out of context and exagerated the analogy to make a point. Kind of like using the Nazi Argument as a Trump Card in a conversation.

For those of you going on and on about statutory rape charges:

The age of consent in Michigan is 16 years old. It is not 18, I think its 18 in only one state. So why are you all trying to scare the poor girl with a potential prison sentence?

It took me 10 seconds to find it.

Ok? A 16 year old can bang his/her little heart out with anyone older.

The same 16 year old in Michigan can go to Prison for many years for having sex with a 15 year old.

u go girl! glad to hear u worked things out! GL w/the suicide semmester... I totally know how that goes.

From yet ANOTHER music teacher: STAY AWAY!!!! This is the reason that all of us had to get liability insurance to teach private lessons where I come from!!!!! In case something like this happened and then you got in trouble!!!!

You cannot have a relationship with a student. You really shouldn't even TALK about it to that student. This is very dangerous and could have serious implications where your future is concerned! Students are 100% off limits!

I'm sorry! I know that's not what you want to hear!

James 08-20-2002 05:00 PM

Actually, she doesn't want to hear it because she already told us that he is a staff member NOT a student.

I know it easy to miss stuff in a long thread, but this one is only 20 something or so posts long LOL.

People need to read a trifle more carefully ;).

Go for it! He is not a student and we're talking band camp. Didn't you see American Pie?

gphi2k2 08-20-2002 05:42 PM

She JUST SAID like 5 posts ago that she's decided that she's not going to go for it!!! Sheesh. James is right.

Good decision by the way. As the old adage suggests, If it's meant to be, you'll end up together sometime down the line.

I used to cheer him on at his Pop Warner, HS, and now college football games [if he can stop getting injured--I'd like to do that some time this season]. He graduated from the neighboring boys' school down the road in 2000. I graduated in 1997, but he has a late 1981 birthday so that only makes us 2 years and a few months apart.

Timmy?! OMG, as in Timmy Chang?! Holy crap..he's hot! :) you go girlie. By the way, what is up with his injury? I haven't really been following.

LOL chioangel83...btw, "WHAT SCHOOL YOU WENT?" ;)

He fractured his pinky a week and a half ago but it looks like it's getting better. Apparently it had gotten stuck in someone's shoulder pad [that sounds kinda goofy, doesn't it?]. It didn't even look fractured at first, but I'm not a doc so what do I know?

Right now, Jason Whieldon's the interim starting QB but Tim's anxious to play. We'll see come Saturday when we play EIU.

Now that I've realized that Tim's a man...yes girl, he is hot. That's some consolation because he drives me INSANE! His little boy mentality is something I'm used to already....so I'm not expecting anything from him.

Since the season's starting, I doubt I'll get too see him too often. Oh well.

PandaOnProzac 08-27-2002 05:10 AM

I've found band relationships as a no no. Take this from a drummer.

Age.....well sounds to me you've got a case of Mary Kay Latourno or whatever you spell her name.
