;) Actually, it's more like you have to have a rec AT Texas. That is The University of Texas. A more competitive recruitement does not exist on this planet, I don't think...this may just be a rumor, but my SIL's mom was a sorority girl at UT in the 60's (in Farrah Fawcett's pledge class), and they actually had "rush training" to teach the rushees how to act/not to act, and at one time-rushees had to wear the same clothes (color & style) for each round.

Most other Texas schools like rec's, but they are not required to rush (although I understand some org's do require them)...they are definitely better to have, though.

You won't find that atmosphere at ECU, thank goodness. Of course, if there are any longhorns on GC-it would be great to hear an update on their recruitment--whether it's as tough as it once was...I know I probably never would have gotten a bid had I gone there as planned (I knew NO ONE in the Greek world before college).

Somewhere there was a thread that discussed UT rush...I remember posting something about an article I saved from the seventies about it. I thought Arkansas and Auburn had hard rushes, but Texas (and maybe Georgia and LSU) must be the worst!

It used to be that you had to have individual invitations from each sorority there to even get into the first parties. Seems like people from smaller towns or those who just didn't know any Greeks would get overlooked that way.

Kaitlyn: I lived in Green Hall with no air and to say the least, I moved out that year and never went back to campus housing, but the experience was great!

Don't be scared about recruitment, it is laid back compared to most schools and ECU has a pretty easy going social scene.

About your Rho Chi groups...you and your roomy will be in the same group...they do it by dorms and alpha order. There is a slight possibility that you will be separated, but if not, try to think what you like, not what everyone else likes.

Keep us posted and stop by the Panhellenic booth and Greek Info session, those women will be able to answer all your questions.

Good Luck!
