Yeah.. basically it is pulling rank.. except for that it's not done by if you're office is considered "higher" it's by class... :D but like I said... not allowed anymore...

Basically. We did the same thing at my chapter, we would call "Bond" (as in our bond/initiation order). We only ever used it for silly stuff, like answering the phone or the door.
Here is another question. In Kappa Delta, all pledges (I'm sorry, when I was in college they were pledges and I just can't change wha tI call them!) and sisters were to stand upon an Alumna entering the room. Now, I see no problem with this at all, it is a display of respect for those who came before you (much like in the military, how they salute). However, might some see this as hazing?

I don't see that as hazing. I see that as a sign of respect for the sisters that have come before you.

In our hazing policy which includes this statement (paraphrased)
-- hazing is any situation that is created intentionally or uninentionally that creates an uncomfortable situation...

I could see how liberally interpretted you could say requiring anything of your members could be hazing... But that just wouldn't fly.

It's a house rule for us to stand when a lady enters a room. In my opinion, it's not hazing... Would my opinion stand up in court? It has yet to be seen.

It is the opinion of our nationals, and California State law that anyone can be hazed, whether she be a pledge, or an active. Even a pledge can haze an active.
Alpha Xi Dalta has a very, very strict no hazing policy, but we still stand for our Alum, I don't think it's hazing, but I could see how it could be portrayed that way, I'll have to tell my best friend who just went Alum, that she's hazing me the next time she reminds me that I'm supposed to stand when she enters a room!

The answer to the original question of whether actives can be hazed is absolutely yes.
