Sigma Sigma Sigma was founded at Longwood College in Farmville, VA on April 20th, 1898.

Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded in 1870 at Monmouth College, Monmouth Illinois. My chapter, Epsilon Kappa at South Carolina, was founded in February 1967! One interesting trivia fact - Kappa and Pi Beta Phi were both founded at Monmouth College within three years of each other. |
Delta Zeta Sorority was founded on October 24, 1902 at Miami University of Ohio. Our Alpha chapter is still there and our national headquarters and museum are in Oxford as well. We were the tenth group to join the NPC, which we did in 1910.

Killarney,
I've driven past that Museum a few times. ------------------ Brian Sejas The Miami Chapter of Delta Upsilon, Est. May 13, 1868. |
My Fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, was founded on August 8th, 1839 at Miami University of Ohio.
We have a Headquarters and Museum there. Beta was first(one of many firsts) to establish a Fraternity west of the Alleghany mountains. Other interesting facts are, A snow ball rebellion that we shared once with Phi Delta Theta and the Miami Triad(Us, Phi Delt, and Sigma Chi). A Theta told me once that a Beta also helped found Kappa Alpha Theta. In terms of rank, we are very respected and and notable among all Fraternties. I've heard were among the top twenty percent. I think everyone has their own perception about it but I would say we are in the top quarter. Plus we've been around for a very long time. -Kevin http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Miami1839 (edited June 29, 2001).] [This message has been edited by Miami1839 (edited June 29, 2001).] |
Delta Tau Delta was founded at Bethany College, Virginia -- now West Virginia -- in 1858. Our oldest continuously existing chapter is Beta Chapter at Ohio Univesity in Athens, Ohio which has been in operation since 1862.
DeltAlum (Beta Chapter) PS There is no truth to the cruel rumor that I was there for the chapter's founding, however I have personally seen a picture of our favorite LXA Tom Earp standing there enjoying a frosty mug of Strohs watching the celebration. Miami1839,
I'm very familiar with the Snowball Rebellion! January 12 and 13, 1848. We had to learn about it during pledging, it was on one of our tests. Ever since joining a fraternity, my appreciation for history has shot up amazingly! Ironically, just last week I sat here on my computer reading a history of Miami University on their library website and there was a big part about the Snowball Rebellion. Kinda funny when you read it, they barracaded (sp?) the doors with huge snowballs a few nights, and each morning the janitor would come and have to find a way in. I remember reading something about how he had to break a window to get in one day. I bet when those students did that they never thought we'd be talking about it 153 years later http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Brian Sejas The Miami Chapter of Delta Upsilon, Est. Phi Mu
was founded at Wesleyan college in Macon Georgia, on January 4th, 1852. However we celebrate March 4th 1852 as our founders day, which was the date when we were publicly announced. This coming year we will celebrate 150 years of amazing sisterhood! My chapter Theta Gamma was installed in 1988. ------------------ Love, Honor, Truth |
Theta Delta Chi was founded 1847 in Union College, NY. We still mantain this Alpha Chapter until now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
We are the eleventh oldest fratenity, and we patented our seven firsts: we are the first greek organization to adopt flower, color, pledge pin, flag, fraternal magazine, precious stone and endowment fund. Do you know what other houses were founded in Union College? They have the "Fraternal Gate" in the middle of campus, if I'm not mistaken, because several greek organizations were founded there. :) |
Phi Sigma Sigma was founded on November 26, 1913 at Hunter College... our Alpha chapter split in 1968 (Alpha and Alpha Alpha) when Hunter split into two seperate colleges (unlike most orgs, Phi Sig goes through the greek alphabet, and then into Beta Alpha, Beta Beta- not Alpha Alpha, Alpha Beta)
The Gamma Gamma chapter was founded May 8, 1971 after being Beta Xi Omega for I think 2 years? Tau Beta Sigma was founded March 26, 1946 and the Delta Omicron Chapter on (ahh! My brain isnt working... ugh, Ill get back to you on the date... Phi Sig dates and TBS dates are tooo similar in Clarion! Since I learned Phi Sig first, its stuck!) <3Ali ------------------ Phi Sigma Sigma - Gamma Gamma Tau Beta Sigma - Delta Omicron |
quee,
Kappa Alpha Society, Sigma Phi, Delta Phi, Psi Upsilon, Chi Psi, and Theta Delta Chi were all founded at Union College (from first to last) ------------------ Brian Sejas The Miami Chapter of Delta Upsilon, Est. May 13, 1868. |

Pi Beta Phi was founded on April 28, 1867 at Monmouth, and Indiana Gamma was founded on August 27, 1897. On my campus the Kappas and the Pi Phi's get together towards the end of the school year to celebrate our heritage. BTW here's a fun fact. My birthday is April 28, the same day we were nationally founded! [This message has been edited by erniegurl00 (edited June 30, 2001).] |
