The phrase "you folks in the Northeast" is perfectly correct from a grammar standpoint, and is non-inclusive either by connotation or denotation. Taking offense to it is silly. Even if you assume it to be a generalized majority (which seems fair), you have to lump yourself into that majority group to get anywhere near the level you're aiming for. |

I think that if I asked enough folks across the different strata they may also find what Oklahomans do a bit different. |
Criminals prey on the weak and unprotected. Carrying a gun, particularly openly as Melanie Hain did, lets the bad guy know you're neither.
Average response time for police varies from area to area, but you can almost guarantee when the dipshit whacko starts shooting at a kids' soccer game, or a college campus, or a mall, or a church, or any other place "you don't need a gun", the police won't be there in time to stop it. |
Well it didn't protect Melanie from her husband.
This article (and I am not sure if it's the same as originally posted) confirms that Scott did it. He shot her with his own gun while hers was in a backpack at the front door. Yeah. |

But back to the meat of the story itself. Sad that a gun toting gun rights advocate just happened to die by her husband's gun. What the community and family there may never find out will be how much abuse if any she suffered under her husband and why she didn't shoot him instead. Going by what you said, carrying a gun for protection, well you almost have to figure the one she needed to be protected from the most lived under the same roof. |
DI2, did you know that French people like cheese and wine?
-- God I hope you're not French 'cuz that'd somehow be offensive to you as well I guess? |

And I don't consider NC to be a northeastern state. But to solidify what's being said... You wouldn't find it offensive if I said "you boys of xyz frat are really racist in your candidate selection process," right? |

DI this is where I have to step in.
1. Your article. The incident happened in PA Carrying around a gun, much less to a kids sporting event was not deemed normal. 2. Kevin's comment in proximity to your OP because you were in shock. 3. Kevin made it abundantly clear that it's common in Oklahoma that people to carry concealed weapons. 3a. And due to that, his 'you northeasterners' I divine to be in reference to the people in PA who were up in arms about this woman bearing arms who made her get her licence suspended. |
