I have a feeling that Vancouve Opening Ceremonies are going to suck wind in 2010. When it comes to showmanship, Canada does it very badly. Le Sigh....

Not necessarily. They could hire Disney or someone like that to produce the open and close. Some local committees have done that -- much as organizations like the SuperBowl and college bowl games hire them to produce their halftimes.

I didn't mind the Vancouver presentation that much. Hell, it could have been a lot worse.

There's only so much you can do when your stuck with themes like hockey, curling, snowshoes, snowmobiles, etc., etc.

Where in the US would you like to see the Olympics held? Here is a list of cities that are considering bidding on the 2016 Summer Olympics.

CutiePie2000 02-28-2006 05:24 PM

Hasn't the USA had a lot of Olympics recent'ishly?

Atlanta: 2004
Salt Lake City: 2002
LA: 1984
Lake Placid: 1980
New York: is that TBA or is that the one that London one for 2012?

mu_agd 02-28-2006 05:27 PM

Wasn't Atlanta in 1996?

New York lost out in the bid for 2012.

Atlanta was indeed 1996.

I agree with Delt; Vancouver could have a great opening ceremony, they just have to hire the right people to plan it.

Yes. Then Salt Lake.

I'd guess that and the stadium controversy didn't help NY's bid.

ETA, there are at least two other US cities (other than those named several posts above) that I can think of that have hosted the Olympics. I'm sure someone can name them.

And, of course, Denver received the bid, and then cancelled.

Squaw Valley & St. Louis come to mind.

AznSAE 02-28-2006 08:24 PM

so i google 2016 olympics and came up with this: cities that will bid for the games

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Summer_Olympics

i think the reason why the united states is a hot spot for the olympics is because the venues are already in place or may need minor updates.

Very good! We've got a winner!

A lot of people can't come up with St. Louis.

I would hope a country in South America could get a good bid together. 2016 in Rio sounds pretty good!

Athens was actually 2004. Salt Lake City was 2002.

Don't forget Sydney in 2000! Athens & Sydney were Summer and Salt Lake City was Winter Olympics

Rollergirl2001 03-01-2006 01:04 AM

I would like to see the games in Rio. However, high crime rates have caused many major sporting events to be drawn away.

I would like to see the games in Argentina or Venezuela.
