Wu-Tang Reunites--AP
I guess this means there will be 32 chambers instead of 36.:(
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Wu-Tang Clan is back. Fourteen months after founding member O.D.B. fatally overdosed on cocaine and painkillers, the surviving eight members of the pioneering hip-hop group are touring again. "It's going to be different in a sense," group member GZA said in a telephone interview just before the tour kicked off Tuesday in New Haven. "He isn't going to be there physically, but spiritually and mentally he still will be there." The New York rap collective, formed in 1992, revolutionized the hip-hop industry in the 1990s with its raw lyricism and business approach. Designed to take over the record industry, the group branched off to do solo projects following the major success of their debut album "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)." O.D.B., also known as Ol' Dirty Bastard, was a few days from turning 36 when he overdosed at a Manhattan recording studio in November 2004. The group had not performed since then until starting its East Coast tour, which ends Feb. 19 in Orlando, Fla. Some proceeds will be donated to the deceased rapper's family. "He'll be in our hearts and he'll be in the hearts of the crowd. It'll be great. It'll be a great tribute," GZA said. Though it's been more than a decade since "Enter the Wu-Tang" debuted with its references to kung-fu movies and Chinese folklore, GZA said the group's energy hasn't waned. Wu-Tang is working on a new album and a documentary using film collected on tours and during time spent living in a California mansion, GZA said. "It's just Wu-Tang, raw and uncut — the most intimate moments," GZA said. Despite internal feuds over the past 13 years, GZA said the group dynamic hasn't changed. "It feels good to come together," he said. "It feels good to be around my brothers, regardless of whatever we go through." |

Double Play
Fresh on the heels of us reporting last week that 'Law & Order' and 'Rent' star Jesse L. Martin will play late soul great Marvin Gaye in an upcoming biopic, several other actors are publicizing their desire to bring the stories of iconic entertainment personalities to the big screen. 'Las Vegas' star James Lesure may have to learn how to tap dance to recreate his dream project. "Gregory Hines. I thought about [it]. Sometimes people say that I look like him. I love to dance. I don't tap so well, but I'm open to taking lessons," Lesure says. The former star of 'For Your Love,' says he has also considered playing tennis hero Arthur Ashe. "I don't know much about him, but he seemed like a sweet individual, a man of dignity that achieved great things in his life." Vivica A. Fox is passionate about playing trouble-prone R&B diva Whitney Houston. "I would love to play Whitney. It's something that I've put out in the universe. I did approach some people, but they felt that right now wasn't the right time to do it. But whenever they do that or whenever it is done, it would be my dream role. I think Whitney is an incredible entertainer, she's a great woman, and because of things that are happening in her life right now, a lot of people have forgotten her contribution to the music industry. I want to remind them," says the star of Lifetime's 'Missing.' Keith Robinson is currently shooting 'Dreamgirls' alongside Beyonce Knowles, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy, but that's not the only musical in which the singer-actor would like to appear. "I'd like to play Donny Hathaway in a movie," says Robinson, who has also starred in the film 'Fat Albert' and on NBC's 'American Dreams.' Buzzworthy Mia Amber, who appeared in the film 'Road Trip,' and 'America's Next Top Model' contestant Toccarra Jones, who graces the current cover of 'King' magazine, are the new faces of Ashley Stewart's new spring 2006 campaign. Both full-figured models are featured on billboards for the plus-size women's line. See a video from their photo shoot at www.AshleyStewart.com. Can't Say Names ... What bestselling author apparently has four children by four different women, though only one child is acknowledged? Said author, whose books have become national touring plays, is apparently not active in the lives of three of his children and is regularly late with his child support checks for at least one child. "What's really sad is that he sits on panels and does speaking dates nationally pretending to be a role model for black men," said a source. Now the author is slated to head to court and attempt to terminate his parental rights for at least one of the children. My guess--Shut it down, shut it down!:p If Jawn would had added the works "radio show," I think it would have really given it away. |

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/dayart...-COVER.sff.jpg LOS ANGELES -- Franklin Cover, who became a familiar face as George and Louise Jefferson's white neighbor in the long-running TV sitcom "The Jeffersons," has died, his publicist said Thursday. He was 77.
Cover died of pneumonia Sunday at the Lillian Booth Actor's Fund of America home in Englewood, N.J., said publicist Dale Olson. He had been living at the home since December 2005 while recuperating from a heart condition. In his nearly six decades in show business, Cover made numerous appearances on television shows, including "The Jackie Gleason Show," "All in the Family," "Who's the Boss?" "Will & Grace," "Living Single," "Mad About You" and "ER." He began his career on the stage, appearing in Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and "Henry IV," and later in numerous Broadway productions, including "Any Wednesday," "Wild Honey and "Born Yesterday." But Cover was best known for his role as Tom Willis, who was in an interracial marriage with a black woman, in "The Jeffersons." He and his wife lived in the same "deluxe apartment building" that Sherman Hemsley moved his family to after making money in the dry-cleaning business. There, Cover often played a comic foil to Hemsley's blustering, opinionated black businessman. The show ran from 1975 to 1985. Cover also appeared in several films, including "The Great Gatsby," "The Stepford Wives" and "Wall Street." He is survived by his widow, Mary, a son and a daughter. |
