I just got back from learning about the Core Plan. I am definitely going to do this because it goes along well with my lifestyle.

I hit goal 2 weeks ago but I am at the high end of my healthy weight and I still want to lose more. I plan to lose around 5-10 more pounds, tone up and see how I do.

So right now I am technically on maintenance while still losing. Anyone else in this boat?

No but I wish I was......
Can you spare any detail about the new Core plan?

zchiprincess 08-26-2004 02:17 PM

adpialumcsuc,

You can eat until satisfaction from food/groups without tracking. This is mostly whole foods. The new "Getting Started" book will tell you the foods included in the "Core Plan". I believe ETools will tell you as well. It seems that several sites have been posting the food list and are forced to take the lists down since WW has copyrighted the information :-(.

Vegetables/Fruits

Lean Meats/Beans/Soy-Certain cuts of meat only, the "Getting Started" book tells more info.

Dairy- Fat Free Milk, Fat Free yogurt

Whole grains-brown rice, whole wheat pasta, other whole grain foods

You don't count points except for a weekly allowance of 35 flex points to be used on foods not on the core list.

I hope this offers some insight.

zchiprincess 08-27-2004 09:49 AM

adpialumcsuc,
Here is a LINK to the WW site with more information about the Core Program. I hope this helps!

So I went to my meeting on saturday. I only lost 1.6 pounds. I'm a little frustrated. I was sticking to my points target, I ACTUALLY went to the gym and I ONLY lost 1. 6 pounds :(
I know, it's better than nothing. But I lost more weight when I wasn't working out. I feel like I did all that work for nothing.

They us talked about the Core Plan. I think for now I'm going to stick with the Flex Plan. I think that works better for me. The Core Plan I might do later when I've lost my weight. Do it when I'm in the maintainence phase.

If you went to the gym, you may have not lost as much because while you lost fat, you gained muscle. Remember - the more muscle you have the more calorie you burn - so while it may cause you to lose slower early on - it'll help you in the long run! :)

zchiprincess 09-01-2004 11:08 AM

Lady Pi Phi,
I think 1.6 is an awesome loss!! I know it doesn't seem like a whole lot but that is more than what I normally lose! Going to the gym is definitely going to help you lose fat and inches! Good move.

XOMichelle 09-02-2004 11:22 AM

1.6 pounds is great!!! That is a real loss. Anything more than that you will gain back quickly. Think of it this way: 1.6 pounds/ week for 4 months (4 months at the gym)= 25 pounds! And you will have more muscle tone. Keep it up.

I started my diet again... I lost 7 pounds back in May/June and want to lose another 7-10. I lost 1 pound this week. I want to fit into these jeans I bought that were a tad small. I have 30 days to return them, so if I don't lose 4 more pounds in that time, back to Macy's they go.

Lady Pi Phi 09-02-2004 11:42 AM

Well I haven't been to the gym this week. One because I have been so tired. 2 I hurt my foot.

I haven't had any junk food (except some tartufo yesterday, but it wa my brithday). I haven't really been counting points either. But I don't think my eating has been all that bad.

I guess we'll see on saturday. I'm going to try to go to the gym tomorrow if my foot isn't bothering me too much.

recommitting to WW?

Hey there fellow Weight Watchers! Has anyone recommitted to WW for the New Year? I have started over and thankfully, I caught myself late holiday before completely blowing things. My aim is to go back to the WW center in 2 weeks and not have to pay. Since I achieved Lifetime membership, I sorta slacked off. Tip: do not stop going once a week after you reach Lifetime because it is very hard to stay focused when you only go monthly. This has been my experience anyway.

Good luck to everyone who is recommitting this year!

Lady Pi Phi 01-11-2005 06:53 AM

My new year's resolution was to start back on the points system. I wasn't going to go to meetings becuase I didn't want to spend the money and not show up or do what I needed to do. So I said I would do it on my onw until I lost my 10% weight and then I would hit the meetings. So far things have not been good.

I really want to do this because I am so miserable right now, but I can't seem to focus.

xo_kathy 01-11-2005 11:20 AM

I'm back on now. I was really on it for a while and lost 16.5 pounds. But I was motivated to fit into the wedding dress I ordered. Then I let myself indulge a bit too much over the holidays. I gained 4 lbs. back. :(

But, I pick up and start over. I have 2 months til I take the dress in for alterations, so I definitely think I can get the 4 off by then, and maybe a couple more!

Good luck to all in the new year!

XOMichelle 01-11-2005 01:03 PM

Good Luck Kathy! Your wedding dress is awesome, and I know you will look beautiful in it :)

I don't do prescribed diets, but I am back on the weight loss track. Last year in May I started a quest to lose 15 pounds, and I got half way there. I'm using the first quarter to finish the deed. I'm already down one pound since the holiday fiasco.

DolphinChicaDDD 01-11-2005 11:39 PM

ok, so i was thinking about doing weight watchers. but i have a question to throw out there:

this is my issue- i've always been very skinny because i've always been a runner/athlete. well, 3 surgerys later i'm not allowed to run very much. in fact, i'm not really allowed to work out much either. so i've put on weight and i'm not happy about it. nothing really fits me anymore. problem is i've looked at some sucess stories, and i'm at the weight they ended at.

am i going to be scoffed at if i attend meetings?

trojangal 01-12-2005 04:37 AM

Dolphin, they won't scoff at you.

Weight Watchers is not only about losing, but also weight control and management once you get where you want to be.

I am starting back already with the points system and exercising again. I started my exercise program at the YMCA last week and fired up to make changes.

Sunday...bumped toe into wall and bruised beyond belief--hard to wear walking shoes and do anything...:( Will be glad when foot feels better.

Former WW member here and will be going back soon! It really worked for me...then, I dropped out. Nothing good there!

You shouldn't be - though somtimes the older ladies have said to me "Oh, I wish I looked like you, what are YOU doing here?" - but it was always meant in a nice way, I think!

WW is very strict about their weight range though. I know my firend's mom and sister both got down to the bottom of the suggested weight range for their height, and WW made them bring a doctor's note saying they could attend meetings.

FYI:
Here's the WW chart on min/max weight for height for females.

Ht. Min. High Target (Age 25-45)
5’1” 106 127
5’2” 109 131
5’3” 113 135
5’4” 116 140
5’5” 120 144
5’6” 124 148
5’7” 127 153
5’8” 131 158
5’9” 135 162
5’10” 139 167
5’11” 143 172
6’0” 147 177
6’1” 151 182
6’2” 155 187

so after losing that 20lbs about a year ago, i regained almost all of it when i was unemployed there for a while. but now that i've started back to work, i've dropped even more weight than i had originally. i've gone from a size 26/28 to a size 18/20. i feel pretty good now. i get my exercise at work just by doing my job. i walk some 10k steps a day just at my job. so now i have both my diet and my activity under control and the lbs are coming off. i'm looking damn good!! lol

Woohoo!! Went to the YMCA tonight and worked out...40 minutes on a crosstrainer and 11 stations of weights. I feel tired, but it's a good tired.

NutBrnHair 01-15-2005 04:57 AM

This week I lost 4.5 lbs.!

I have a co-worker who was only about 15 pounds overweight (and didn't really look it) and she joined our Weight Watchers at Work program. When she asked why she was joining Weight Watchers (by people who didn't think she really needed to lose weight), she said that she realized she is gaining 5 pounds a year and if she keeps that up, she'll end up quite heavy. She learned a lot about portion control and she's done really well. Most of us in the room at the time wished we'd gotten things under control when it was only 15 pounds!

THATS EXACUTLY WHAT I WANT!!!!! I'm in the same boat as your co-worker, and I want to end the cycle before it starts. I'm looking into going with a friend, if we can find a location central to the both of us. I really don't want to go to the meetings in my hometown because I really don't want to see anyone I know (how stupid is that??!!)If not, we might just join on the internet and support each other.

kddani 01-15-2005 05:45 PM

I just signed up again for Weight Watchers Online. I had done it before, lost 8 pounds, then somehow drifted off of it.

My mom wants to join Curves and says we should do it together. I told her I would if she pays ;) I think i'd get bored of Curves pretty quickly.

adpialumcsuc 01-18-2005 03:46 PM

Hey everyone...
Well through the holiday my parents and I decided not to weigh at all so we could enjoy ourselves. To my shock I still actually lost weight. I am now down a total of 52lbs since last January when I started the Weight Watchers program at home. I still have about 25 lbs to go to my second goal, but I have accomplished my first. We started weighing again last night and as soon as this stupid sinus infection is gone I will start running again. For now I have to take it easy with the exercise.

DolphinChicaDDD

I have a friend that is under weight if anything and she wanted to join weight watchers to learn how to eat healthier not necessarily how to loose weight. They wouldn't let her!! She was really bummed.

It's weight Watchers policy. They don't want to run the risk of having some one who could have an eating disorder. (While I'm not saying your friend has one, but it's really to protect their own butts).

Anyhoo, if your friend is serious about learning to eat healthier, why not suggest that she see a nutritionist?

adpialumcsuc 01-18-2005 06:51 PM

Don't get me wrong I completely agree with their policy. She doesn't need to loose any weight at all. Her thing is she eats candy and chocolate like crazy. She knows she doesn't eat healthy and wants to learn how to eat better. She did go see 2 different nutrionists and both pretty much laughed at her because she is so thin.

That's just crazy, and very unprofessional of those nutritionists.

I don't know, I'm not a professional here, I just don't think WW is something she should follow, even on her own. It sounds like she's just eating the wrong types of foods, and not over-eating. A decent nutritionist would help her make better food choices...perhaps she just needs to keep looking for one?

DolphinChicaDDD 01-18-2005 10:35 PM

I'm doing it. My friend and I are going before work on Friday!! Lets hope all goes well!!

lifesaver 01-19-2005 01:54 AM

I dont like WW. Them gals take up all the parking at my gym on monday and wednesday evenings.

lol.

If it helps, great. Not too familliar with it. Any diet needs to be accompanied by exercise tho. W/out, you loose the weight, but dont really improve the health of your cardiovascular system.

(technically you do, because you loose the stress on your system of the additional weight, but w/out cardio it just puts you on par with average weight people who dont exercise. The experts say you live longer and are healthier by doing some aerobic exercise.)

Since you're not familiar with the program WW, does encourage everyone to do some form of exercise, even if it's just going for a walk for 30 minutes every day. Exercise is a fundamental part of the program.

a lot of people in the group today were. i think i'm trying flex points, my body doesn't know how to regulate itself anymore so i think it needs a swift kick in the a$$

Tippiechick 01-22-2005 12:40 AM

Dani,

My mom does the Core plan. She's a lifetime member who has maintained her goal for 3 years now. She has gone onto the core and says it is OK. She prefers the flex. But, she felt like her body needed a switch for a while...

The key to the Core plan is only eating until you feel satisfied. So, those with food-addictive personalities whose body doesn't seem to send the signal that it is full have trouble on Core. But, it really is a lifestyle change. It is actually quite restrictive even with the 35 flex points. So many things are excluded from the program.

They recently changed a rule on the Core plan, though. Before, you could not a food as core unless it was on the list. So, even if you made a recipe with only core foods, it was not core when you put the ingredients together. It had to be eaten in it's listed form. Now, they have amended that to say that if all ingredients are core, then the food is a core food. If only some ingredients are Core, then you have to figure up the point value for the items that aren't Core.

I love the flex plan. I don't know if I will ever go Core.

Yeah...me too. THIS week I thought the leader wrote down another -4 pounds. (I though -- cool -- since I didn't think I'd had such a great week.) When I got to my chair & looked at my folder, it was actually -.4 I know a loss is a loss, but still -- I was a tad disappointed.

Tippiechick 01-23-2005 10:34 PM

Thought I would pass along a few products I recently found and some that have been mentioned at meetings.

1) SUGAR FREE chocolate chip cookie dough by Pillsbury. It's with the other refrigerated cookie doughs. Made w/ Splenda, 2 pts. per cookie. *Not extremely low in pointage, but for those of us w/ hypoglycemia/diabetes/blood sugar issues it's a godsend.*

2) La Buena Vida low carb soft taco shells at Wal-Mart. These are 1 point per shell. And, they are good. I combine them with the Taco Bell or Sam's Choice fat-free refried beans (1 pt. per 1/2 cup, I think.) So, I can have a burrito for a 1.5 points. I have to look a little to find them. But, they are usually near the cream cheeses or deli-type foods.

3) Kroger has decaf, sugar-free, sweet tea in gallons. It really is good.

4) Campbell's Select Soups' Vegetable soup is only 3 points per can.

5) Carb Options Teriyaki Sauce is 0 pts. per serving. It's VERY good on chicken or turkey breasts.

I'm on Day 2 of WeightWatchers. I don't really feel like I'm missing anything; half the time when I reach for something I think I'll want, I use the little slider point calculator thing and see that I really don't. Example- I wanted those Keebler El Fudge cookies (the little men). Then I figured out 2 were 7 points. So I had a piece of friut instead.

I am craving chocolate, so I will be checking out that cookie dough tomorrow....ya think eating it raw will take off any points?? :p
