'Girls Gone Wild' Founder Surrenders to Police

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The founder of the "Girls Gone Wild" video empire surrendered to federal marshals early Tuesday to face a contempt of court citation after initially defying a federal judge.

Joe Francis was booked into the Bay County Jail, said Ruth Sasser, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. "His attorneys continue to work toward a settlement," Kevin Mercuri, a spokesman for Francis, said in a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press.

Francis, 34, makes an estimated $29 million a year from videos of young women baring their breasts and in other sexually provocative situations.

He drew the contempt citation during negotiations in a civil lawsuit brought by seven women who were underage when they were filmed by his company on Panama City Beach during spring break in 2003.

I just love it when rich people think that the law doesn't apply to them.

I don't care too much for the guy, but I have to admit -- he's a rich MF because of a brilliant idea and we all wish we thought of it first.

read an interview with him that basically told how he kicked the cameras out of a room with a girl who was a virgin at the time and then came out bragging she wasn't a virgin anymore. dude so not cool.

Yeah, some time ago, I saw a news program, Dateline I think, about how he did his operation. I remember his crew followed around some girls on spring break and interviewed them in an office behind closed doors. One of the girls came out crying. She didn't want to do what they were asking of her. These *children* need to know what they're dealing with. Grown men selling teen porn.

I had a run-in with some guys from GGW back in college. I was on spring break with some friends and the GGW came up to us in a bar. They would not leave us alone. They followed us around and offered to buy us drinks. We thought we had ditched them at one point and had a few drinks that we purchased on our own. The guys found us later (ugh!) and then begged us all to make out with each other. I was drunk but I still knew better than to do something like that. We eventually left the bar because we kept getting harassed by them and the bouncers weren't willing to help.

I've heard similar stories from other girls. The worst ones are where the girls actually take up the GGW guys on their offer to buy them drinks. The guys will buy them a drink and ask them to do something like take off their shirt or make out with their friend. The girl would say no so the GGW guys would buy them another drink. Cycle would repeat until the girl was so drunk that she didn't know what she was doing.

Sleazy, nasty men.

Well just to be devil's advocate here . . sleezy nasty girls for doing it. And then blaming the alcohol and the men that asked them.

I mean ZTAngel just said No. Those other girls could have also.

Plus, I have seen enough drunk girls in bars make out with their friends or flash people for free to make me wonder how coerced some of these girls really are.

Plus everyone knows that he also uses Ringers right?

I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I totally agree with you, James.

The girls could easily say no to the drinks being bought for them.

I can't help but think of that girl a few DVDs back who actually called her FATHER while the tape was rolling just to tell him that she was being filmed for GGW. SRSLY, who the hell does that?

It's weird because I keep on getting calls on my landline at home from MANTRA, the company that distributes GGW. They always call when I'm not home and they never leave a message. I wonder what they want?
