question about symbols

Hello ladies, I have a question about your symbols/mascot. Am I just crazy or was Raggedy Ann once an ASA mascot? I could've sworn I read that somewhere but now I can't find anything about that anywhere? Curious minds want to know.

RA has always been an "unofficial" mascot due to the fact that if she was official, Bobbs-Merrill (or whoever RA's parents are) would want us to shell out beaucoup bucks for using her. She's a trademarked character. Lots of chapters are using ladybugs (also unofficial) now, but for a lot of us "old schoolers" it's all about the Raggedy Ann.

Good to know I'm not crazy. When/why did the change from Raggedy Ann to ladybugs happen?

I think it was around 93 - 94 I started seeing ladybug stuff being produced by the drinkware/blanket/stationery etc manufacturers. Why ladybugs - that's one I honestly don't know. They're supposed to be lucky apparently.

It really depends on the chapter. I am personally a fan of one over the other , however, I did have a ladybug curtain and welcome mat in the hallway of my old apartment. One of our chapters uses apples-Emporia State.

A funny story...I chose ASA because of Raggedy Ann. I was dead tied between two sororities-ASA and KD. I loved the sisters, the pref ritual, and everything else they tell you about before you join equally. I had to make a decision, and I had loved Raggedy Ann as a little girl. I took it as the sign I needed!
