What does it mean to have a sponsor?

A lady at my church was a Delta Gamma when she was in school, and said that if there was a DG where I'm going (there isn't) she would have sponsored me. What does that even mean?

Swerving outside my lane, but I think it means she would have written you a rec for recruitment.

Delta Gamma does not use the term "rec"or "recommendation." We call it a "sponsor form."

If you're still missing recs though, it couldn't hurt to ask her if she knows any women from the groups you're missing recs from.

And since you are "learning" about being Greek, once you are initiated, you are always a member. So unless the lady from church resigned her membership, in which case she could not write a sponsor form for you, she is still a Delta Gamma....not was. If she was one in school, she is one now.
