It's incredibly sad. I hope the university will build a pedestrian bridge and students and people in general will be more aware when crossing the street. It's a horrible, horrible loss and so many lives will never be the same.
Something similar happened a few years ago at UF when a law student was running with earbuds and attempted to cross when the light was against her. In Brooke's case, this happened in the early hours on a Sunday morning (around 2:30 am) and troopers believe she had been drinking. She apparently stopped in the crosswalk to talk to someone in another car.
The driver of the car who struck her had the green light and will not be cited. I cannot even begin to imagine the grief and pain the driver will carry his entire life over this.
