Hi-- I just wanted to let you all know that this appeared in the campus notices at Washington and Lee University this week:
The Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. would like to announce the establishment of a college chapter on the W&L campus. We would like to cordially invite all interested males to attend our Informational Seminar on Wednesday September 8, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the John W. Elrod University Commons, Room 216. Shirt and Tie is requested.
Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell Universityin Ithaca, New York by seven college men who recognized the need for astrong bond of Brotherhood among African descendants in this country. The visionary founders, known as the "Jewels" of the Fraternity, are Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy.
For additional information about the fraternity, please visit our national website at www.AlphaPhiAlpha.net or contact Sean Bates, Alpha Advisor at Batessl@vcu.edu.
I am so excited that this opportunity is coming for men on the Washington and Lee campus! This will be our first (and hopefully not last) NPHC organization on campus. I know that y'all's membership policies are different, so I didn't want to post this on the regular forums (and please delete if you feel this is inappropriate here, but I'm just so excited that Alpha Phi Alpha is interested in our campus!
