Question Lavaliering?

Does your chapter have any traditions revolving around lavaliering, engagement, marriage? Ours is a few days over a year old now so we have nothing at this time. So what do ya'll do?

Our chapter, when someone is getting lavaleered, or pinned, and wishes the house to participate, gets together, and goes to wherever this event is happening, usualy in a very public place. Then, all the guys in the house get on one knee, in a semi-circle, with the brother doing th lavalerring/pinning slighting in front. We then sing Sigma Nu Girl(poorly), to the poor soul.

It's a fun time.

And the girls tend to tear up afterwords. Be it from happiness, or from the way we sing, we havn't figured out yet.

Pinning

Our chapter refers to it as pinning. There are two options we have, 1. We have a portion of our White Rose where Brothers can pin their girlfriends, announce engagements, etc. very simple very easy. 2. If a brother is pinning an Alpha Xi Delta, we have a whole big ceremony that we go through. Durring serenedes(ask me if you have no clue what i'm talking about), both houses meet in the sorority mall. We all circle up and sing our house sings Sigma Nu Girl or All Hail Sigma Nu and the Fuzzies sing their Rose song. Next a large metal Alpha Xi Delta and a Large badge outline and Sigma Nu letters are set on fire(tradition dictates that they are wrapped with diapers). The brother pins His girlfriend and then the burning letters are set on the grass so that both houses letters are burned in. Very elaborate, very time consuming. Either method that is chosen has to be told to the commander in advance and a bottle passing seremony is performed.

Mug passing at our chapter goes as follows once for good luck, twice for pinning, three times for engagement, and four times for a bun in the oven. For those of you that don't know what a mug passing is we all circle up with a beverage in hand and a mug is passed around as each person pours a portion of his drink in the big mug the identity of the person for whom the passing is for is only known to the commander. Each time the mug passes the commander means something after the proper amount of times around the circle the person who the ceremony is for will drink. If he finishes he'll have good luck. We have a little chant that goes along with it but it's not appropriate for this board pm me if you want to know it.

Kenny

My boyfriend of over a year lavaliered me last december at their semi formal/ Their chapter only allows them to pin/lavalier at that time and at the formal. They go off and do secret guy stuff (usually come back drunk and smelling of cigar smoke)

The girls have no clue they are lavaliered until the social chair gets up and announces which brothers gave out lavalier. I always assumed you would be told by your boyfriend that evening that you were lavaliered.

It kinda sucks because you sit there trying to act gracious and basically not cry from disappointment, but then your relieved to hear your name called out and get the explanation from your boyfriend later.

Its neat because his mother was lavaliered and pinned by his father at UNC's Sigma Nu. She got out her lavalier and we swaped stories. She still has the flowers the brothers gave to her at the pinning ceremony.

We called it dropping.

After chapter the brother would be taken to the house courtyard and tied to the flagpole out there. The chapter would then cover him in whatever we could find in the fridge: eggs, katchup, musturd, etc.

His newly dropped girlfriend would have to come and untie him and let him down....

Then there is much drinking
