A possible LXA Nobel Prize winner

http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/r..._nobelph.shtml

I believe that this George Smoot may well be the same George Smoot mentioned in this article below:

http://aether.lbl.gov/www/personnel/...t-measure.html

Yet another Nobel prize winner for Cal and I believe the second for Lambda Chi Alpha

Gee, I don't know, John. George may have attended MIT but he doesn't say he was a Lambda Chi, and there's no one by that name listed in the 2003 LCA Directory.

Does anyone else have better information?

Whoops

I did some quick research when I posted the thread and I saw an article by the Cal Professor Smoot which mebntioned LXA and the Smoot measurement in some detail. Upon re-reading the article it is now far more ambiguous than it was,

Need to get Earp to delete this thread

I thought so too at first, but this George Smoot mentions he is a relative of the famous Oliver Smoot and mentions Oliver Smoot's affiliation with Lambda Chi, but not his own.

John sorry, I am going to leave it posted.

It does bring some interesting points though. What was the connection if any?

Seems like a post was brought up a while back and look what that one turned up!

SMoot vs. Smoot

Our Smoot at MIT was used to measure a bridge there in Cambridge in the sixties. When I saw the Nobel Smoot show up it mentioned that he had attended MIT in the sixties. I did a quick search (while not wearing glasses) and found a mention of the Nobel Smoot in the same paragraph with the mention of the LXA Smoot. It was a long, windy paragraph.

Upon closer read it became apparent that the Nobel Smoot from Berkeley was not the same Smoot as our LXA Smoot from MIT even though they were both named Smoot and attended at virtually the same time.
