My Chapter is no longer recognized

We have lost recognition from the general fraternity. Our chapter continues to rush people, and our brother hood is stronger than ever.

It sucks to be unrecognized, but we have alot of fredom now. We are no longer restricted by the rules of the greek life office and the general fraternity. Morale has actually improved beacuse we no longer have to ask the university to do an event. We just do it.

I'm wondering if there are any other non-colony unrecognized beta chapters out there? Surely our experience is not unique.

Welcome to GC brother. Curiously, what is your chapter called now? Do you still call yourself 'Gamma Mu of Beta Theta Pi', or does your chapter go by a new Local name? Do you still use the Beta ritual (don't have to go into much detail...PM me if you want)?

I know I've always felt that if my chapter was removed from campus, we'd remain underground....

PS, do you run your website, or own it? Nice site...

Although you say that chapter morale has improved, surely you don't think that losing your charter is a good thing.

I would strongly disagree with an unchartered chapter initiating brothers and performing rituals. Hopefully your chapter will regain its status soon.

So What Is The Real Story?

OK....So what is the real story here?

Was your chapter living up to its obligations as Betas to the rest of the Betas that have come before?

If it is truely a control issue then share the absolute facts (those that can be support with evidence in any general civil court of law).

There are, however, most die down with time after losing their charter.

ok, so if you are an undergrad Beta WHEN you lose your charter, do you just go to alumni status, or do you lose your betaness? And of course, your new guys arnt recognized by the fraternity, so they arnt like official Betas

In my experience, once you are an initiated Beta they won't typically take your roll number away unless you do something incredibly wrong. If your chapter loses it's charter after you've been initiated, you should be able to simply move on to "alumni status".

I don't think the roll number is taken away unless you initiate into another fraternity, even then I'm not sure what the general protocol is, Pat Green comes to mind off the top of my head. Active members from a chapter who lost their charter simply gain alumni status. I don't believe a charter is necessary to initiate members, as aebot's and my colony are both currently charterless. In reference to an unrecognized chapter, I would suppose that all the guys who were initiated during this time could be included as honorary initiates if/when a recognized group returns to the campus.

REALLY? I dont think they would be honored at all. In fact, if they came back to their campus, they probably wouldnt let them be refounding fathers or anything. Thats what I think

I didn't say they should be active once again. What I was presenting was an idea to cover the "missing" roll numbers from the time the charter was lost. So if the last recognized member is 1900 but the roll books are at 1945, then does the new recognized class start at 1901 or 1946?

The Rest of the Story

Are we ever going to get the rest of the story? The 411? The skinny? The flip side?

I have seen nothing posted on the GF website regarding this issue nor have I seen any details posted here.

What is up with the lose of recognition? What happened?

Beaver,

What is the reason given the GF for this lose of recognition? I read the GF website daily and have not seen anything post there with the GF's side of the story.

What is your side?

Might not be the same chapter, but it's in the same state.

Beta Rho at Oregon Partners With the Men of Principle Initiative
Tuesday, 25 April 2006

The Beta Rho Chapter at the University of Oregon voted unanimously on Wednesday April 19, 2006 to partner with the Men of Principle initiative. The members held a special meeting to discuss the partnership and voting process. The first informational meeting was held February 11, 2005.

The Chapter has progressed tremendously and is applying for the Most Improved Chapter award at the 167th General Convention in Toronto. Chapter Counselor David Rae, British Columbia '00 remarked, "Congratulations are in order!" Some of the chapter's achievements include:
Implementing operating calendars for the president, secretary, vice-president, recruitment chairman, pledge educator, scholarship chairman, risk manager, treasurer, ritual chairman, house manager and social chairman.
Signed up 13 men for leadership opportunities (7 Institute, 2 BWC, 1 Leadership College, 2 UIFI, 1 Futures Quest)
Created $1500 Leadership Travel Fund to help subsidize undergraduate airfare to summer leadership opportunities.
Raised more than $10,000 this year with annual Ms. Greek, going toward M.A.D.D. and raising awareness about the risks of underage drinking
Re-wrote and created a 45-page Pledge Education booklet.
Recruited a 10-man pledge class in the spring, the largest on campus.

Yo, Beaver, my man......Are you going to give us the 411 on the reason the GF pulled your chapter's charter? I noticed nothing was mentioned in Spring BOTT magazine.

I would still like to hear you side of the story.

Thanks.....................................
