Alpha Xi trivia
ok ... this is stolen from a couple of other forums .. but it sounds like fun ...
I'll start with a trivia question and whoever answers it correctly gets to pose the next trivia question ... let see what we know about Alpha Xi Delta and what we can learn....
Ok for starters ...
We have 10 founders ... How many of the 10 founders married?

three founders had Alpha Xi Delta daughters. Alice Bruner, Bertha Evans, and Lewie Taylor.
Who were the youngest and the oldest founder at founding and what was the age span?

The youngest founder was Alice and the oldest was Eliza or Lewie (both from 1867 and could find there birth date).
What year did Alpha Xi Delta join NPC?

flirt and gcrose ... thanks for making me look this up ... I have always made the assumption that Eliza D.C. Everton was the oldest .. based on something dimly remembered from pledge class (yes we were pledges long ago ) lessons. But actually Lewie Taylor was the oldest.
(per my Alpha Xi Delta history)
Lewie Strong Taylor was born July 18, 1867.
Eliza Drake Curtis Everton was born Aug. 14, 1867.
Both would have turned 26 that summer after the founding in April.
The youngest was Alice Bartlett Bruner was born in 1878. She was 15 at founding.
So the span of ages was 11 years. I've always liked the idea that Alpha Xi Delta has been composed of "non-traditional" students (ie older, younger, single and widowed) even from the beginning

FHQ moved in 1964 to Washington Blvd in Indianapolis from Evanston, Il.
Convention is held every other year... what years in our history have been exceptions to this pattern and what was the reason?

Hmm, this one is hard!
Starting w/ 1903, the "odd" years were:
1904-I would assume b/c they hadn't started w/ biennial conventions yet, or b/c they wanted to hear the report from the Third Inter-Sorority Conference from the year before
1918 (instead of 1917)-Alpha Xi Delta's 25th anniversary
1937 (instead of 1936)-postponed so that additional funds could be made available to help chapters (this was during the Great Depression)
1943, 1944, 1945-cancelled due to WWII, and it was decided to postpone the 1946 convention until 1947 so that efforts could be focused toward the collegiate chapters
1951 was cancelled, I would assume due to the Korean War?
1959 to 1974-convention was triennial, after which conventions become biennial again
1993-Alpha Xi Delta centennial anniversary
Who was the first recipient of the Order of the Rose award and in what year did she receive the award?

The Order of the Rose was established in 1949 to honor fifty year members. It was first awarded to Edna Epperson Brinkman who also accepted the award for the other twenty-seven living members who were eligible. The women included Alice Bartlett Bruner, Bertha Cook Evans, and Lewie Strong Taylor.
When was the first edition of The Quill published?

The Alpha Xi Delta of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority was first published in February of 1904. In October of 1964 it became known as The Quill of Alpha Xi Delta.
Who was the first Founder to enter Chapter Eternal and when did she do so?

Yikes, I'll admit that I am not 100% confident in my response - I can't find a really good list that includes both recently installed chapters and recently closed so I had to use my basic math skills (no one told me I was going to have to think) - but here goes:
We've installed 204 including our most recently installed Iota Mu at Lycoming College.
We have 113 active chapters and 1 active colony.
What was the original design of the Recognition Quill and what chapter is responsible for the current design?
