I wonder what went on for the two 2-week "summer rush" sessions. Seems like a long time for the members to be on campus. Does anyone know if the chapters actually gave bids during that time?

Educated Guess: I believe the Summer parties were held as "get to know you" occasions -- mainly for local rushees. For example, the Chi Omegas from OSU who live in Dallas might have a party for the Dallas freshmen attending OSU. I believe that invites to such a party must be sent to other OSU students who belong to the other sororities. They may or may not choose to come.

My cousin was president of her chapter at the University of Houston during this time. She and her sisters were always in and out of my grandmother's house and I remember one thing. Reeaaally big skirts!

Stillwater girls were always "free" and did not count toward quota. Shortly after this, in early 60s, Delta Delta Delta came on campus, followed by Alpha Xi Delta a little later.

My daughter and have enjoyed looking at these old rush guides...which are a real hoot. I realized that there was only 23 years between 1958 and my rush in 1981...and 31 years between her rush and mine. The difference in clothing between 1958 and 1981 is sooooo dramatic, but there really wasn't much difference in attire between her rush and mine. If anything, her's was a bit more formal. I think we wore pants/preppy attire for the first rounds, whereas she wore dresses after the first round, and we didn't wear the heels the girls wear now.
She said, "you can really see the difference the 'women's revolution' made." She also noted that the undergarments under these 1958 outfits would have been horrible...girdles (not Spanx...in her words, "it would have been like having another set of clothing underneath your clothing!"), garter belts, hose, etc.
