WIFLSRN: I took tomorrow off from work because we’re spending my birthday at the cabin this weekend. I’m glad I left my telescope there the last time we went. Lugging that thing around can be a pill. The weather is supposed to be really nice Saturday. So… I’m going to have a cozy, stargazing weekend ahead.

I got a new telescope last year and I have been procrastinating on reading the manual and actually using it. It's just sitting there by the window looking all science-y, but behaving like a prop.

Yep. I had them up long enough for you to laugh and for me to remember why I don’t leave my picture online.

WIFLSRN: So, we’ve got our neighbors dog with us on our way to our cabin. She’s such a sweet dog. She loves riding in the car. My neighbors have been out of town for a week and so they asked us if we could keep her until they get back Monday. I told them… “Sure, but I might not give her back.”

Cabins scare me, especially when they’re in the woods. Is it in the woods?

Yep, it’s in the woods. My husband converted it into a glass box, so now I just pretend the creepy clown I imagine outside isn’t real. So, I hear ya. Creepy at night, beautiful during the day.

WIFLSRN: Why am I up watching CNN when I know it’s just going to get me upset?

Ya know, I’m just lying here in bed thinking about how the world (especially our society) feels like a flight where chimpanzees are flying the plane. One’s smacking buttons, the other’s grooming the copilot, and like somehow we’re all just sitting here, pretending it’s normal. People reading, sipping soda, acting like this isn’t a full-blown zoo at 35,000 feet.

It’s gotten so weird. Nothing makes sense anymore. Up is down, facts are feelings, and basic human decency boarded a different flight. 🫤

Technically nowhere, my sister was in town for a week so I played tour guide. Overall it was a lot of fun but we averaged about 10k steps/8-10km a day so we were beat by the end of the week.

Now I'm also dealing with a strained nerve or something in my lower back from the gym...

Happy Birthday CG! Yes, the world is crazy right now. It has to get better eventually. I'm trying to only focus on good because there is good out there.

Well, that’s still exciting. Family time is always the best time.

I hope your back gets better.

No, what I’m saying is we’ve normalized absurdity. Like, Twilight Zone stuff is happening, and people’s reaction is, “Hmm. Wonder what’s for dinner.” That kind of thing. It’s so irritating to me.

Honestly? If you stop noticing how broken things are, you start accepting broken as the default. That’s where we are today as a society.

I know it’s comforting to believe things will get better, but truthfully, they’re going to get worse. I’m honestly not trying to be negative, it’s just that I see it as kind of like pattern recognition?

What I’m saying is history doesn’t move in a straight line. It seems to spiral. And every time people ignore the warning signs, they repeat them.

Thank you so much Dee and Phrozen for the birthday wishes.

History does spiral. But there are a lot of really angry people and some really smart ones who are speaking out. My kids and I were just chatting on a conference call (it's the coolest to have adult kids who are intelligent and great to talk to) and they think the guy who was wrongly sent to El Salvador will be the turning point. Most experts say he was probably killed within 24 hours of arriving there so they cannot send him back but they dare not admit this to the public. The truth will come out though. It always does.
