Nelson Mandela's Critical Condition

Okay, I will start the Nelson Mandela thread.

Ninety-four year old Nelson Mandela has had a rich life and I hope that he either recovers or has a peaceful passing. His condition is still "critical" and news reports state that it is worsening. He is 94 so this is not particularly shocking.

In this page we pay homage to Nelson Mandela.

True story:

My dad has met him various time 10 years ago and he said that Mandela was the most warming fella he ever met. When you're in his presence, there was that feeling of warmth.

By the way, the shirt that he always wear is known as Batik and despite people's believe it's not African. It's from Indonesia and you can pretty much wear it to formal function here. Usually it'll say in the invitation either suit and tie or batik. Also could be wear for leisure friday, short sleeve and jeans.

Thanks for the true story and the info on the shirt. People's belief that the shirt is African highlights the many similarities across cultures.

Nelson Mandela opened his eyes and smiled at the news that President Obama is visiting South Africa.

I am not as well read on him, however he was a good looking young man.

This man is true inspiration and has amazing dedication. Read a lot about him for a paper on modern heroes in high school. Very sad he's so ill, even though it might me inevitable at his age.

That's how I feel. So many of the true heroes (well known or not) are at the age when we need to be happy that we had them for so long. I don't really want to live that long.

That said, Mandela is a man of integrity who has fought the good fight and won. May he be blessed.

He is on life support.

I do not know whether Mandela wants this 94 year old's battle to continue like this. But, Dear Lord, when it is my time to pass, hopefully in my very old ages, please minimize the pain. Please let the passing be quicker than this and please give my loved ones the strength to respect my wishes and just let it be.

May his passing be peaceful and his journey to the Light swift and sure.

Just posted: Nelson Mandela 'doing much better' on eve of 95th birthday

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013...-95th-birthday

Quote:
Mandela's daughter Zindzi said he had made "dramatic progress". She told Sky News: "I visited him yesterday and he was watching television with headphones. He gave us a huge smile and raised his hand … He responds with his eyes and his hands."

Mandela was gaining energy and strength, Zindzi said. "I should think he will be going home any time soon."

Nelson Mandela is still in the hospital in critical condition. He's been there since June. I wonder whether I would want to fight like this for my life as opposed to just letting go. I may believe my 95 years of life were enough.

I saw the movie trailer for fine ass Idris Elba's depiction of Mandela. I will be seeing that movie for both Mandela and Elba.

I was just reading this thread and wondering if I'd somehow missed the announcement of his death. I hope that he is comfortable, however he's doing right now.

And Idris Elba is playing Mandela? I will pay ridiculous sums of money to watch him do that. He was so fantastic(ally handsome) as Stringer Bell in The Wire.
