Anyone have a daughter going through rush this week at Tennessee?
I do, and I am so excited for my daughter. She is having a ball, but mom here is a nervous wreck!

I don't have a daughter going through, but I have a good family friend going through that I wrote a rec. for. So far, she's had nothing but great things to say and she's having a blast! (but of course is still a little nervous).
She's a legacy to one chapter, but she seems to have an open mind about everything and is focused on finding HER home (and not her friends' homes), so I'm excited for her!
Good luck to your daughter tennesseemom! Can't wait to find out how everything works out for her!

thanks TN Phi Mu
sounds like your friends daughter has the right attitude! My daughter doesn't have any friends from her high school at UT, so I am praying she will find her "own home" also! do you know if parents usually attend Bid Day at UT? I am an Auburn sorority alum, and bid day is well attended by parents there. thanks for your help

I don't think that parents usually attend bid day at UT. At least not that I've heard of. There are probably some UT alums around here that may know better than I do (but I'll also do some investigative work with some friends I have that are still there for you).

UT recruitment
I'm a Pi Phi alumna from UT. Parents don't normally attend Bid Day at UT. I graduated in 1989, but that hasn't changed. If a daughter is a legacy to a chapter, sometimes her mother will attend that group's celebration off-campus, helping the other alumnae with the set-up.
You can't go wrong with any of the chapters there. I would have been happy in any of them.

I have a cousin going through there and several of her friends. My pledge sister also has a cousin through and I have a neighbor, as well!

I do not have a daughter going through rush at UT, but many that I know and love almost as much. So far most are having a great time and haven't suffered too many blows at this stage. I am praying for a great outcome for all, something like a half a dozen or more and I'm sure I can find an extra prayer for yours as well! Good luck to all!

I have several rec girls ( abaout a dozen)going through there and the ones I have heard from so far are all having a great time so far. They all had great resumes and so did not take many cuts this round. The first big cuts will come on Wednesda(and they will be heavy), so keep all of the TN. girls in your prayers this week.
Bid day is not heavily attended by parents, but some alums with legacy daughters do attend the off campus parties. In the current Panhellenic building, there is just not space for lots of parents (there really isn't space for the girls- it is very crowded). If your daughter is a legacy and she prefs your sorority, you might contact the chapter and ask if you can surprise her by being at bid day or at their party, and get directions from them. I am sure they will be thrilled for you to be there.

I am a current sorority member at UT, and I know my chapter doesn't have parents at bid day unless they are alums. I just wanted to add my good luck wishes to all the girls going through recruitment at Tennessee, and yes, cooler weather would be fantastic.

No, I won't be there, but I'll be by the phone to see if a friend's granddaughter is among the Chi Omega pledge class!

Hey Tennesseemom,
I have a daughter going through recruitment at UTK this week and she is having a blast! Well that is until she started class yesterday and was assigned tons of homework...lol. I went to UT Austin in Texas but her dad went to UT and played ball there and so therefore she just really wanted to attend UTK. I am so nervous for her as well. She hardly knows anyone there as there are so few people coming from our city to Knoxville for school. I wish your daughter all the luck in the world. My daughter said she has met some great girls and is so excited about starting her college life. I will keep my fingers crossed that your daughter gets the sorority she wants!
Quick question: I know they just went through there major cuts on Wednesday. Do they still do it the same way where they mostly know by skit round who they want? I remember we barely even got to talk to the members during the skit round so they had to already know who they wanted. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

That's what makes formal recruitment so difficult and, frankly, superficial. You have hardly any time to talk, on either side, and really get to know each other.
By the way, it hit 101 degrees here today. I wouldn't be surprised if someone passes out. I remember how sweltering that Panhellenic Building was in late August.
