Financial difficulties

Hi y'all. This is my first post on GC, but I've read many posts and found the information given here invaluable.

My stomach hurts to write this, but I may have to drop my sorority for financial reasons. My family is going through some difficulties right now that don't look to be letting up soon, and although I've been looking for a job, that money would really need to go towards school regardless. Dues were almost a problem last year, and this year they've gone up about $3000.

I'm not sure if I can maybe deactivate for a little while or take early alum status; I know those are granted very rarely, but I would hate to feel like I could no longer have any ties with DG.

Just looking for some support and maybe stories from those who have gone through a similar situation.

Why did your dues increase so much from one year to the next??? Is your chapter building a new house or something?

We just colonized last year and are moving into our house this fall. I knew they would go up, but I didn't think they would be nearly $5000. This is coupled with the fact that everyone says your first semester is the most expensive. :/

Talk to your advisors. You may be able to work out an acceptable payment plan so you don't need to leave your chapter. If that $5000 includes a building fund payment, those are usually paid over a period of time.

Work with the chapter, advisors, and officers before you make a decision you may regret.
