Winter ARROW

Has everyone recieved their copy? I finally got a chance to read mine tonight (came yesterday).

Any GC-ers make it? The article on stress reduction was very good-- fun to see Pi Phis highlighted for careers not usuallly noted.

For all the alumnae out there, it was announced that starting Fall 2006, the WInter, Spring and Summer issues will go only to dues-paid alumnae (that is not unique. My father is a Beta Theta Pi and only got the fall issue of the magazine-- which was a total disappointment when I was an undergrad). Think I better make sure both of my sisters are paying!

Darn. I can remember getting a sheet of paper when I was initiated that stated that included in the initiation fee was a lifetime subscription to the Arrow.

I pay my dues yearly and due not mind the "new" rule. However, when I was initated, not only were we told this.. it was also sent to us in writing!

Many groups are going through this now and it is really hard for some members to understand. Lifetime subscription should mean lifetime subscription but it really is no longer feasible with the cost of printing and postage.

Tri Delta's Trident (can't remember the issue) has an excellent back and forth in the Letters to the Editor section. AOII's new To Dragma structure is full subscription for 4 years after initiation. After that in order to receive it, one must either be a Life Loyal AOII or a dues paying AC member. We don't have the option like Beta Theta Pi.

As is common today, the "lifetime subscription" will be defined as the annual Fall issue. The other issues are a benefit for dues paid members. We are far from the first group to do this. Nor will we be the last. Every time postage goes up, the costs of the magazine skyrocket as well. The online editions will, of course, be free and available to all.

The numbers are staggering how few alumnae pay the mere $20/year dues and yet that is what pays for the Arrow, the upkeep and running of HQ and all of the other fraternity expenses. This did not come as a surprise to me having heard the financial reports for years.

I wanted to add that I'm pretty sure Sigma Chi charges for their magazine and apparently it is HUGE because they are able to have more articles because their members pay for it...I think they have a some sort of "life loyal" program like Tri Delta and AOII.

Hopefully this may encourage people to pay their alum dues. Will it still be available online to read?

In regards to dues since we are on the subject. I am confused on something. When are dues due? It says pay your dues for 2005-2006. But I know they are yearly. Is it something like May 2005-April 2006? Whatever our financial calendar is?

I have been out of school for two years and paid for the first time last year. I paid mine I believe around last september. My question is how long is this good for or in other words when should I pay them again to make sure that I keep getting the arrow?

I am sure I am not the only one who finds this confusing. If this wouldnt affect whether I got the arrow, I probably would just pay them around the same time next year to make I paid every year.

The fraternity fiscal year is July 1- June 30. Dues may be paid at any time. I'd heard that they were going to go to a direct bill method where everyone would get a statement like I do for professional organizations. Currently, I pay through my club, but that might change.

I'm sure there will be a more organized attempt to reach alumnae and notify them in addition to email. I, too, hope this will encourage more alumnae to pay dues.

The online issues will always be freely available.... I love it when groups have online editions, so I can keep up with what everyone else is doing too!
