DG networking works!
Neat little story...
My dad has worked for a government agency his entire career. One of the female officers in his department was also a Delta Gamma at my chapter (I forget how we figured this out - I think it was from an alumnae directory). My dad had mentioned to her a few years ago I was also a DG and they chatted a bit about her time there and my involvment with the chapter.
Recently, due to budget cuts, they were downsizing in his department and his options were to go for the recent opening his boss's retirement just left, or face early retirement. He wasn't ready to retire so went ahead and applied for the boss's job. Last week he and several others interviewed with a panel, which happened to include the DG.
He called me last night to tell me that he got the promotion and he thinks that the fact that he had the DG connection to break the ice years ago with the officer gave him a leg up when it came around to the interview. She actually knew who he was during the interview instead of just some random Joe in there.
He joked that all those years of dues that he paid finally helped him out!
