Lightbulb

It's something I've seen in some other groups' symbolism and stuff I think, so I'd be surprised if anybody thinks it's meant to be scary. I researched it my sophomore year for one of my classes (way before ever even thinking about joining Chi O!)

Basically I found a lot of different interpretations, some signifying the combination of leadership and courage with profound philosophical thought.

I have no idea where I found it because all I have is an old paper I wrote stuck in a folder, otherwise I'd try to be more helpful

Greek Love,
April

Just a reminder...
We do not discuss ritual or information pertaining to Chi Omega on the open board. It's nothing personal, but to answer that question would be giving you private information about our Fraternity. If you are a pledge, you will go through a series of lessons during meeting that will give you some clues, but not until Initiation will you see or understand the significance!

Love in Chi Omega,
Hootie

True, true--I should address that....

Yeah I'd like to add to what Hootie was saying--I don't want you to think that I was stating all that Chi Omega has to say about its meaning, that's just what adds up if you look at Chi O's emphasis on involvement/leadership and academic achievement:

"Chi Omega is committed to:

Personal integrity
Excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits
Inter-generational participation
Community service
Leadership opportunities
Social enrichment"

[from our website at www.chiomega.com]

Plus my previous research on symbolism that stated the "combination of leadership and courage with profound philosophical thought."

My definition was NOT from any "official" source or Chi Omega knowledge of mine, nothing you can't PUBLICLY access.

Since the alternate interpretations were things about pirates and stuff, I figured the other made more sense.

Yes, Ms. Vix, you will find out in initiation what the skull and crossbones means. It's a lot more fun thinking up your own ideas about what everything means during your new member period. That was one of the things we did for fun, they had us all try to figure out what everything meant, like GH, GTB, etc. and the symbols, etc.

Peg legs and pirates and parrots? Sounds like a really fun social idea! (Or a garb at a Jimmu Buffet concert!)
