Heaviest Cuts?

I have a question, but i'm not sure I can get a definitive answer!
After what round do the heaviest cuts happen? After the second round or right before pref?
Again, not sure if this can be answered for every college in general, just let me know
Thanks!!

There is no rule. In my chapter, it was after second.

I think it's going to depend a lot on the particular campus and the particular chapters' return rates. I don't think it's something that can be answered in general.

The only thing I think you could expect generally is that releases for not meeting grade standards will come earlier in the process.

With the new release system each group will have a different number of women they can invite back to each round. It's all based on their past return (invitation acceptance) rates. Past high return rates presumably means you don't need to invite as many PNM's because not many will turn you down. Conversely lower return rates mean you need to invite more in order to get similar numbers of PNMs to accept.

Because of this it's nearly impossible to make even general statements about which rounds might have higher cuts than others. Every Chapter on every campus can be different and it can even change from year to year.

Are you talking about the chapter's cuts? or the PNM cuts?

It depends on the chapter. Some chapters will cut the most PNMs after the first round. Others will make most of their cuts after the third round, before preference.

There's a really complicated system that many colleges use called the Release Figure Method, which drives when certain chapters make most of their cuts. There are a lot of threads about it on GC, and it could either clarify things or confuse you even more.

Just be yourself, be confident, and don't worry about it. You'll project insecurity if you worry about things out of your control.

Truer words may never have been posted.

Sometimes I'm really grateful that I didn't know all this stuff before I rushed.

Try not to worry about technical details like this. Your side of the process is stressful enough. Good advice was given above about smiling, being yourself, having fun.
Also, another tip I always pass along is to really engage with the member you are talking to. She is just as tired as you are of idle chit chat. Answer with more than a "yes" or a "no".
And finally, remember, keep an open mind throughout the entire process!

This is so true. Especially if you're at a campus with a lot of groups, your round one conversation may be the same thing 17 times, but you're still trying to make a great impression the 17th time you have it. If you can make a point of seeming interested and following up on the stuff your rusher ask you, it's going to be so much more fun for both of you and you are so much more likely to stand out.

It depends on the school. The most cuts at my school usually happen after Philanthropy day, right before House Tours day.

I wouldn't worry about this though. If you worry about getting cut, you may appear nervous during recruitment, and you don't want that.
