Hi!
I haven't seen it yet. I'm in L.A., so its not on for another hour and a half here!
How I got into them is kinda cool actually...
I moved to San Diego after college and moved in with a friend of a friend's girlfriend (who is to this day one of my best friends, but that's another story) and this was in the early 90's... she had just graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and kept talking about this AMAZING local band she always saw a Trax on Tuesday's for $1 at at frat parties...
Then several years later I moved back to L.A. and my brother comes over and hands me a CD -- "Under the Table..." and says "You NEED to own this."
So I was digging it, for sure, but not quite rabid.
So "Crash" comes out, and again, my brother comes and gives it to me. Clearly trying to suck me into his deep hole of groupie-ness.
Well it worked. I was hooked. And hooked even more once I saw them live. And then, and only then, did my friend from UVA tell me that DMB was that local band she was so into in college.
Now my brother and I have deep, philosophical all Dave all the time discussions. Drives our friends and family NUTS.
Check out my napster collection of EARLY DMB from like 91-93. Napster id is amylamare. I'll be online from about 930am to 7pm California time.
How bout you prospectiverushee? How'd you get into DMB?

*as i listen to the new cd*
I hate my dang country. We don't get TRL here, as I told Amy in a complaint session I was having with her. I don't wanna hear he looked good!!! =( It's funny cause the kid pic they put in rolling stone of him looks a lot like my boyfriend did when he was that age. Maybe he'll grow up to look like him? hehe. jk
As for how I first heard of the band.
Similar influence as Amy. My brother was into them. They played a local club here and he went and gave me the disc to listen to that night. I was hooked from the first note. There are not even words to describe how much I wanted to be at that concert. I got them live the next time they came through and it was almost a religious experience. I have gone to many many concerts and never have I seen a better live band. I was blown away.
As of right now, there is no Toronto date set. I may have to drive to Buffalo which is two hours away on a work night just so i can see them. It kinda sucks cause he's doing a stadium tour. I want to see him in a small club=(. Loving a popular band sure sucks sometimes
I'll take whatever i can get tho. It's great to commiserate with fellow Daveheads

Hey Leslie,
Don't despair yet. They are announcing Series 2 of the tour between March 2 and 10 on the website--- I think I heard a rumor Toronto was going to be added...

REALLY???!!!!!
Where do you get the info? I feel like I'm living under a rock. My brother knew all the scoop about the first album that was cut for this cd being thrown out and completely redone. i just learned about it in Rolling Stone yesterday. Where do I look (other than the website which isn't chock full of info) to get inside scoop???
Anyhow, Amy, you've made my day telling me the rumour about the potential Toronto show . I'll be there with bells on if he comes.
Anyhow, I suppose I should pretend to work. Hopefully prospectiverushee comes back so we can have a full out dave matthews thread going. Just can't get enough=)

Here I am guys!
I love hearing how other people got in to Dave. Since I started this thread, I guess it's only fair for me to share my story.
It was back in '96 when Crash in to Me was all the rage. They'd play the song on the radio about 1 million times a day and everytime I thought it was U2. The radio announcer even said The Dave Matthews Band, but I never paid any attention. Anyway this guy at the place where I was working at the time keep telling me about this awesome band that I just had to hear. Of course it was Dave that he wanted me to listen to. So I said why not and got the Crash album. At first I thought the music was kind of strange. Then I heard track 8 (Let You Down) and I was hook. I love that song the moment I heard it.
I was a slient Dave fan from then on. Then when I came to LSU in 98 and met a friend who loves the Pet Shop Boys as much as I love Dave, then my obsession with Dave grew. Now I'm a full fledged groupie
I haven't gotten to see them live yet. I was suppose to go last summer, but couldn't. I do here seeing Dave live in concert is a religious experience. You know it's funny, I use to laigh when I saw girls falling out and crying at Backstreet Concert. But I know that once I get to see Dave in concert, I will be acting the same way.
Leslie,
The songs that they played on the summer tour(Grey Street,JTR,Raven ect) were suppose to be the new album, but then the producer thing happened and that's how we ended up with Everyday(a kick ass song BTW) I got a bootleg copy of the "old new songs" and Grey Street is my fave. Nancies.org is the offical website for DMB fans that you might want to check out. I post more sites later that might be of interest to you.
Later guys

Okay, so um, yah...HOW DO I GET MY HANDS ON THAT BOOTLEG??? Once i found out there were 12 recorded but unreleased songs, I've been dying to get ahold of them. The songs are apparantly all really dark. But you know, a Dave song is a Dave song.

Here are some links that will keep you informed about Dave and the band.
www.dmbml.com (these people are even nice enough to have lyrics all typed out for the new album
www.typicalsituation.com ( they have a lot of old songs you can dowload and listen to) for some reason this link is not working like it should, so you may have to type it in. But the site is awesome

So here's my question...
Is there anywhere would I could get news clippings of some sort from back when the original album that was supposed to be relased was trashed? My brother somehow knew about it. He said it's an old story. But I hadn't heard about it. So i'm curious to see what was said about it at the time.

leslie,
try the nancies.org archives. that's probably the best bet. also there's a fairly extensive write up about the unrealeased album in the rolling stone that's out right now w/ dave on the cover.
