Two Killed At University of Washington
A man & a woman were killed in Gould Hall this morning. Sources are saying that the man has been stalking the woman, and that it was probably a murder/suicide:

Does anyone local know more about this yet?

Here's a link to KING-TV, the NBC station in Seattle:

They report that the female victim and her sister had gotten restraining orders against the alleged gunman.

Well, so much for legal action!
I have seen this to many times and it is not TV, it is real life.
What a Judge says doesn't seem to mean much any more!
The mind set of the individual superceedes the Judge!

Thanks for the link, DeltAlum. When I first saw this on the news, I thought students were involved. The fact that the victim & the killer weren't doesn't make it any less tragic.
So often, women are afraid to get restraining orders, because they feel that the orders put "a target on their backs". There really needs to be a better way to handle domestic violence. I wish I could offer some suggestions, other than changing one's identity & moving.

From what they tell us... The "couple" were in their 30's and the guy may have killed the girl, then turn the gun in on himself.
I dunno. But it happenend in the Architectual and Design Building--Gould Hall. Those Architects and Design grad students!
Let's just say, the kids were pissed that professors would act this way. Or rather seeing so much police presence, which is probably a good thing. 'Cuz dude could have taking some kids out.

Okey...
http://www.komotv.com/news/6829097.html
This is a case of domestic violence... Homegirl did everything she could legally do with this kind of escalating situation. This guy she hooked up with was crazy. So she got the restraining order and was in the process of pressing charges but the order couldn't be served because the po po couldn't find dude and asked for more time...
It is all wrong.
And they have a law that no one can carry guns on campus except po po, and military personnel with official approval. Workers are not allowed to carry weapons.
I hope the family of this girl sues the school like no tomorrow. I don't know how, but somebody needs to come out some money.

As if any rule against guns on campus would prevent a lunatic from killing someone if he/she really wants to.
UW is a huge campus, with 40,000 students plus professors, staff, other people, walking around. It would be near to impossible to protect someone there from a crazy wielding a gun.
We all criticize in a situation like this, but what would you do to fix the problem? Arrest and jail indefinitely anyone and everyone that verbally threatens someone? I don't think that's a solution, either. And how are you supposed to even arrest someone you can't find?
ETA: what do you mean by "the kids were pissed that professors would act this way"? The victim was a UW graduate now working for the University in an administrative role, and I have no idea what the occupation was of the 40-something ex boyfriend, but he wasn't a UW professor!
