Sad Day for Chi Omega at Tulane

It is a sad day for Chi Omega's Rho Chapter at Tulane University. One of their collegiate members passed away last night:

Their HQ has also announced it on their Facebook page:

So sorry to hear this very sad news. My sympathy and prayers go out to her family and the sisters of Chi Omega. May God be with her.

What a sad circumstance. My thoughts go out to her family and to the ladies in the chapter who will now have to struggle with the questions of "why?".

My deepest sympathies to Mary's family and sisters. My sophomore year roommate attempted suicide. Fortunately, she received the help she needed through hospitalization and ongoing support. We all missed a lot of indicators, and some of us were more supportive than others. I remember feeling very confused and scared, and unsure what to do or say. I still think there is much more that can be done to identify and help students who struggle with mental illnesses and the pressures of the college environment. There is still stigma and there is avoidance, when there could be intervention and support. When you're 19, you just don't know what to do or how to help. Recalling the other thread about the 57 college students who have died this semester, it was tragic how many of the deaths were caused by suicide.

I thought the letter to the editor regarding the media coverage was very well-written.

Rho Chapter responded yesterday:

"This week and forever we are grateful for the best support system we could ask for. We cannot express how thankful we are for the support of both our sisters in Rho and across the nation. Mary, you have touched our hearts and our lives and you will be forever missed. You will live on in our memories and our Symphony."
