NPHC vs. NPC vs. NIC vs. NALFO

Hey everyone. Now we all know that we have differences, but in this thread let's list all the similarities. This can either be on a national or local/ chapter level (and saying "we're all Greek" doesn't count).

Alpha Phi Alpha, Lambda Upsilon Lambda, and Lambda Pi Chi were all started at Cornell University

Alpha Phi Alpha and Phi Sigma Sigma both use the sphinx as a symbol

Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Gamma Rho, Kappa Sigma, Delta Delta Delta, FarmHouse, Alpha Delta Phi, Lambda Chi Alpha, and more I am forgetting all use the crescent moon as a symbol.

The arrangement of the letters on the Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Sigma Kappa, Zeta Phi Beta, and Phi Beta Sigma badges are very similiar - all have the "phi" raised and in the middle.

Phi Mu and ADPi both use the lion as their mascot, ours is named Sir Fidel and *I believe* (but could be very wrong) that their's is named Alphie....?? Or something similar to that I think. I also think that SAE's mascot is the lion, but if that's wrong someone please correct me!

DG, Phi Mu, and AKA all share the color PINK
I know that a lot of G Phi B's use pink as an adopted color, I know the one's on my campus do.

Cool topic btw!

Don't forget DZ who also have pink. They share pink and green with AKA.

Tri Delta and Kappa Alpha Theta both have the pansy.

Delta Sigma Theta and Tri Delta (at times) are referred to as "Deltas".

Delta Gamma and Alpha Sigma Tau have the anchor as a symbol.

Chi Omega and KKG have the owl.

GREAT thread idea, but don't forget about the MGLO's!!! The letters in my multicultural sorority (Theta Nu Xi) can be found in two fraternity names: Theta Xi and Theta Nu. One of our nicknames is also Theta Nu, but it's all good because they aren't any frat Theta Nu's on my campus so there's no confusion.

There is also a sorority out there that has lavender as one of their colors (like us), the symbol of the butterfly (like us), and is multicultural. . .I don't remember the name though.

DO uses pink as well. We call it "old rose", but... it's pink

My bad. If I left anyone else out don't it's because I don't have love for ya. HarlemWorld has love for everyone, lol.

Are there any other groups that are called Alphas?

Oh yeah, I also wanted to point out that people are always confusing Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Phi. It gets more confusing since "Phi" is pronounced differently between us and people just don't know what to do!

Way, way back in the day AOII was referred to as Alpha. I have a song book from 1931 and 25% of the songs just say Alpha.

AOII shares the Jacquesminot Rose with Phi Kappa Psi.
The color Cardinal with with Chi Omega.
Founded at Barnard College like Alpha Epsilon Phi.

Some Alpha Sigma Alpha chapters use Alphas as a nickname, but this isn't national like "Kappas" or "Thetas." They're as likely to be Alpha Sig or ASA.

incidentally....I have a 1950 Clarion yearbook and there was a local fraternity there called Alpha Phi Alpha. I am quite sure they didn't know about Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

I'm still hoping for an Ivy event between the AKAs and Alpha Phis (we both use the Ivy Leaf as a symbol)
