How big are we nation wide?
I was just wondering, how many DZ chapters are there nation wide? Also..When i went through rush 2 yrs ago, at Texas A&M, i was aware of some of the other sororities, kappa tri-delt theta, but didnt get to hear alot about us (though i would never change which sorority i joined) so i guess my question is, is there a way to expand DZ....i know of several big universities in texas that dont have us...how do sororities go about branching out and establishing chapters? i have never known how greek organizations est. themselves so i am just wanting to know. thx

Expansion is a lengthy process, which is why Delta Zeta chapters aren't popping up everywhere quickly. However, this year we will be getting 3 new chapters which is a really exciting thing!
Expansion depends on a lot of things: whether the campus is interested in having another NPC chapter, whether DZ is interested in colonizing at that campus, what other NPC organizations might also be interested in colonizing... The list goes on. In the end, I think our national officers do a really good job of selecting campuses that offer DZ the chance to thrive. It's a slow and expensive process, but, in the end, it's well worth the effort.

Actually, I believe Delta Zeta is one of the biggest houses nationally...I heard we are the third largest women's organization in the US (after Chi Omega and the Girl Scouts) but this could be rumor. Anyway, I believe the three houses with the largest number of active chapters are Chi Omega, Zeta Tau Alpha, and Delta Zeta. Since we were founded in Ohio, I believe Delta Zeta is more visible in the Midwest and Northeast, and less populous in the South and barely present in the West.

I just joined the UF colony and they told us that DZ got all three schools that they presented to this year for expansion. I think that is pretty amazing that DZ presented to three schools and that all three schools picked DZ over the other sororities that presented. That must say something great about our organization!!!

Actually DZ made a presentation at the University of Kansas and was turned down. Instead ZTA was chosen for KU. Sorry - DZ is still a great group! KU's loss!

UF56-
Nah, just semantics.... I think that they were probably referring to the groups they presented to in the Spring, which were UF, CA-Northridge and Hartford. All three of those resulted in invitations for DZ to colonize. I think the KU presentation was last Fall? Bottom line, 3 colonies that we were gunning for worked out perfectly (well, there's one we were gunning for that still hasn't happened...the school just hasn't made the decision to expand yet, but we are keeping our fingers crossed...)...KU just wasn't in the cards. Maybe next time! We need to make our move to get more Big 12 chapters, but it will take some time....the success at UF will definitely help with the exposure!

Big 12 DZs
I definately agree with getting Big 12 schools.....I am at Texas A&M University right now and I surely want to see us have an awesome presence at all the major universities in this state. : ).
At least at this chapter, we just got 52 of the most wonderful, proactive girls (superinvolved) that went through Recruitment.

the new colonys
Hi girls, I am Kelly, and I am actully from one of the new colonys. I attend the University of Hartford and I am one of the founding sisters. We are so excited here in Hartford to be part of the Delta Zeta family. We looked at quite a few National sororitys and for us, DZ was the only choice. There are 40 of us and we will be installed in April. We have two wonderful CCDs, Trish from Texas and Alana from Mass, and they are helping us through some hectic times. I am part of the second "class" of girls in the sorority (though I am still a founding sister) because 24 girls were pinned in May, while the rest of us were pinned in Oct, and one girl is a iniciate from UCONN who transfered. We can't wait to be installed and to be a full chapter. We would appreciate any words of advice or encouragment and we appreciate all of the cards we have recieved from chapters all over the country!
Lots of DZ love

Kelly,
Are Trish and Alana CCDs or Chapter Consultants? I have never heard of a chapter having two CCDs

small correction...
Chi-O has installed the most "chapters" but I believe DZ has inisitaed more women. DZ obsorbed three or four large national organizations several years ago and has a ton of chapters too. So DZ, ZTA and Chi-O are probably the largest three NPC's. The numbers change every year so-who knows. But Chi-O is not actually the largest womens group either. Delta Sigma Theta has like 800 chapters, Beta Sigma Phi and Epsilon Sigma Alpha has over a 1000 too.
But DZ is huge. You shouldn't feel that b/c there isn't a campus with DZ near you that DZ isn't representing! There's five or six chapters in Georgia, 5 in Florida, Three or Four in Tennessee, they are really big in the Carolinas....so DZ is kicking it in the south too. But you do need to work on the westward expansion, not b/c you need to do anything, but the west needs you. California is so fake and lame unless you're in northern calli.
Good luck with whatever you do!!!!!!!!!

We have two in Tennessee (University of Tennessee/Knoxville and Middle Tennessee State University) and we used to have chapters at University of Memphis and East Tennessee State University. I'd love to see more chapters in the state and all over the country

Hey girls!
I believe that Delta Zeta has somewhere around 160 chapters nationally, but I'm not 100% sure on the number. Actually, I should say INTERnationally. I am very proud to say that I am a member of the Omicron Nu chapter which is located at the University of Windsor, Windsor, CANADA!!!
We are currently the only Canadian chapter in Delta Zeta, and we were installed in October 1992, so we are still a very young chapter.
Watch for a photo of some of our members in the Spring 2003 edition of the Lamp! Hopefully it makes it in!!
In the Flame,
Nanc
