10/24/03 SIGEP YOUTH AIDS PARTNERSHIP
On Monday, October 27, 2003 YouthAIDS held its Second Annual Benefit Gala hosted by Ashley Judd. Sigma Phi Epsilon was recognized as the newest YouthAIDS Global Partner, and the event officially launched the SigEp-YouthAIDS partnership. Coverage from this event will air on December 1, 2003, during VH1’s World AIDS Day special.
At the 48th Grand Chapter Conclave, delegates voted to establish this partnership between Sigma Phi Epsilon and YouthAIDS. Chapters across the country will choose to host and participate in YouthAIDS events to educate their peers and raise awareness on their campuses and in their communities regarding the transmission of HIV. Visit
www.youthaids.org/sigep to learn how to bring a YouthAIDS sponsored event to your campus. Examples of event ideas include concerts, walk-a-thons, auctions—you are limited only by your own creativity.
Sigma Phi Epsilon Grand President Jim Robeson says, “This serious health epidemic can be defeated; all it takes is the courage to speak out, the willingness to encourage others to make smart choices, and a commitment to prevent infections in your community.”
Ashley Judd, YouthAIDS Global Ambassador and host of the Gala, is doing her part to raise HIV/AIDS awareness around the world by asking college students to become involved. “I hope you realize that AIDS is not only a global problem, but more importantly, that it is our problem and we must do something to protect the future of kids everywhere.”
