Illegal police intimidation on NOV 7

This is happening in NY but be careful in other states. It is speculated that Republicans hired off duty police officers and correction officers to patrol voting sites and intimidate immigrants in poor neighborhoods. Let me state what I just heard on the news POLICE HAVE NO JURSDICTION INSIDE THE VOTING PLACE. You do not have to show any ID to vote. Don't let police or anyone intimate you … and for those that don't know how to use the machine, I am sure you can fine a nice old lady in the place to help you. If God spares my life I plan to vote at 6am, so I should be able to help anyone figure out what's what via voice mail or e-mail.

Also another story is that if you registered via DMV you may have a problem voting tomorrow, but YOU SHOULD STILL BE ABLE TO VOTE!! Inquire with the person in charge of that site and you will be able to vote on NOV 7.

Don't settle for NO - take names and id numbers down ….. leave the site and make some calls if you have any problems, yes it is that serious!!

ADDED-> OKAY B4 I get in trouble, I must say DO CARRY ANY AND ALL TYPE OF ID TO THE POLLS WITH YOU FOR THE JUST IN CASE TYPE SITUATION, BUT IN NYC DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED TO SHOW IT ... I just want to make the point that intimidation is not on the ballot, catch my drift!!

I haven't heard about the intimidation by the police but the registering with the DMV is true.

I changed my registration with the DMV in February when I renewed my license. Yesterday, I went to my local board of election to find out which precinct to vote in and they told me I was not on the books.

Anyway to make a long story short, I was able to vote today with a provisional ballot which will be counted.

Please everyone remember that different states have different laws. It is a GA law that you must show ID when you vote. If you do not have ID you will not be allowed to vote. PERIOD! There has been some problems in the past with voter fraud in some rural areas, hence the law. Also, if you are voting for the first time, don't wait until the last minute to vote. during the primaries several people in my district missed their opportunity to vote because they came to the wrong polling place and it was too late to go to another.

PLEASE, bring your ID and voter's registration card with you to the polls, just in case they don't have you on the rolls. It's just easier that way. And only show it to the proper election judges. A lady at my polling place was getting loud with election judges this morning because she didn't bring her ID and they wouldn't let her vote...I'm like, why would you leave home without your ID anyway? Nevertheless, bring it! And call your Board of Elections if you suspect anything funny going down.

I am a resident of NC and if you by chance forget your ID, Voter registration card, etc you are still allowed to vote because they should have you on roll if you registered. Even if you are not on the list of registered voters for whatever reason you may still vote by a provisional ballot.

Sorry for the long post, but I was confused about something when my husband and I went to vote today. Maybe you or someone else can explain it. After giving our addresses to the poll workers and signing our names, everyone was pointed to a particular booth for their respective districts. HOWEVER, each person was assigned a number and there was a notation made on a card as to what each person's number was. We had to stand in line IN ORDER and vote according to our numbers. Well, a couple of women saw people they knew, wandered off the line to talk, and suddenly it seemed to be a minor issue with the poll workers about them being in the right order in line.

I understand making sure a person is a citizen, but why the cards and making sure that people are lined up in a specific order? That sounded like some method of identifying a person and being able to tell how he or she voted.

It' s funny that you mention that because I have never seenthis before when voting. I asked myself the same question. The poll workers were all neiborhood people I know, but the counter was taking a specifiv count of how many people were voting and the voters name was put in specific order according to the vote. I live in NY (Democrat) and I was wondering if anyone else had the same experience.

There have been many lies told to us (Minorities) my mother told me when the primary was going on that I coulg not vote if I missed the primary. I knew this was not true because I have voted before and not voted in the primaries, it is a conspiracy to see to it that black people don't vote. It disusts me to see blacks saying "Oh myu vote doesnt matter." when it definitely does!!! the polls are closed now an I hope that everyone went and voted today...

You are so right because as I type this, the votes in Florida are being recounted. The electoral votes from this state could push the Bush over the top!! Considering this is his brother's state AND the fact that it is South Florida where there is a HUGE REPUBLICAN CUBAN population, we could be in for 4 more years of the Bushes!!

Epitome and Diva_56 as far as I am concerned this headcount thing has been around for a long time, there is nothing illegal to it ...as a matter of fact I suppose they just want to make sure that no one slips in an votes without signing their name. The number I got was based on what machine I used (not talking about districts - I am talking about 3 machines for my district and I used #2) ... there was no logical order or real counting system.
So, if you felt weird I would have asked the attendant what that number was for. Anyway, it is up to Florida now, and as another post says GORE's WINNING VOTE WILL BE FROM THE LORD, so let's pray together ... please post here and let me know you are praying if you are for Gore, but if you are for Bush ....well, to each his/her own!

When I went to vote, I signed in as #189 and my mother was #190. She thinks that somehow they keep track of our voting patterns. I believe they do it for something more than a headcount. Afterall, how would they know that a candidate carried the "black vote" or the "latino vote", etc. unless they know how we voted.

LadyAKA, I'm most definitely praying for Gore to succeed in Florida. I heard that Nader had received something like 96,000 votes. I would have swapped votes with someone in Florida because my Gore vote in South Carolina didn't help much. This is solid Republican territory.

Soror AKAtude you bring up a good point about the numbering thing, I am still in the dark about it and I am also in the dark about this swap thing, everyone is mentioning it and I don't know what it is ... shoot I will swap to - FOR GORE of course, but I guess it is toooo late.

P.S. sad face will probably be on all day because I am still tense and stressed ...

p.s.s. Nader I hear is now getting money from Bush, I don't know the whole story but I think they both represent the Devil .... I am such a conspiracy theorist

My prayers are strongly with Gore winning. Funny thing is that I've been somewhat dispassionate about the candidates, although I knew all along that I'd be voting Democratic up and down. Now, I'm tense, nervous, and depressed! I stayed up til midnight and was back up at 4:30am. I'm really looking with increased anxiety at the fact that the Republicans now control both the House and the Senate-with Bush in the executive office will also be Republican...

On a side note, my experience with voting was quite challenging! In the past two elections, I've lived in predominately white voting districts in Maryland (right outside of DC). Each time that I voted, I was able to get in and out within 15-20 minutes. I live in a predominately black voting district and can I just tell you that it took every bit of an hour! Sister was just determined to get her vote in; however, I realize that others may have been discouraged and not voted!
