What is the world is going on with some of the G.E.M.S.????
I have seen a lot of videos out there of G.E.M.S. groups strolling, wearing peri (with line names & numbers), throwing up the "small" pyramid, etc What is up with that?

Something's wrong with the whole generation. I'm old now, so I can say that.

I saw a youtube video of them doing a whole coming out show, stepping, saying their line names and instead of them holding a Pyramid, they closed their hands. I couldn't believe this when I saw it. I wonder if they grow up thinking they are automatically in the organization if they do this.

Nonsense happens when Deltas have too much time on their hands.

Some of them will think they are shoe-ins for membership (like many legacies do) and some of them will either join another sorority or remain nonGreek.
The ridiculous Delta GEMS programs are so rare that it's not worth anything more than a chuckle.
For those who do not know what Delta GEMS is supposed to be and is in most instances:

^^^ Really random question.....
Do local DST chapters seek government and foundation funding for the Delta ACADEMY, GEMS, and EMBODI? I noticed on the site that some chapters run such programs as full on out-of-school time activities.
(I encourage my APO chapter to seek such grant funding when it's available, especially since they won big in the Pepsi Refresh challenge)

My answer probably won't answer your question.
Based on the alumnae chapters that I am a member of and familiar with, Delta Academy and Delta GEMS are typically run as out-of-school/afterschool/weekend activities. I have never heard of Delta Academy and Delta GEMS activities being conducted during school hours except events like college tours (which a lot of alumnae chapters have planned for April and May ).
As for funding, I have worked with the Academy and GEMS but not at the funding level to know where the money tends to come from. All that I know is that Sorors were using their expertise, mentoring capabilities, and career resources for the Academy and GEMS. They were also using these expertise and resources in rather inexpensive ways such that funding is not a concern in many instances. For example, meeting locations and events are sometimes scheduled in line with Sorors' resources (i.e. owning office space; being a teacher or administrator at a school; having contacts at a science museum). Other than that, some of the money comes from chapter dues and chapter fundraising.

Thank you. I should have specified that by out of school time activities, I really meant stand-alone after school programs.

I figured you meant not associated with a school. From what I know, the Delta GEMS programs are stand-alone after school programs even if school facilities are used.

Some G.E.M.S. and Academy programs are supplemented with private funding. But mostly they are funded from chapter operating budgets. Sorors put in a lot of human resource time to operate the programs.
As for the OP, I agree with Dr. Phil. The positive impact of the programs far outweighs any reason to be upset or concerned about the ones that stroll, step, etc. There are much bigger fish to fry.

I was really taken aback when I saw this--the Alumnae chapters that I have been associated with Norfolk Alumane & most recently Okinawa Alumnae that have Academy and/or GEMS programs run their program strictly by the book--workshops etc with none of that extra foolishness

Most run them by the book which is why I would have to watch youtube (if I cared so much) to find a GEMS stepshow or anything of that sort. That is so rare that I actually thought you were talking about male "Deltas" when I first read your post. LOL.
