Good because I was getting tired of having little mirrors on my shoes.

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Photographing or videotaping up a woman's skirt in a public place doesn't violate a voyeurism law, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday.
The unanimous ruling found that the law only protects people in places where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy. The court rejected prosecutors' arguments that people reasonably expect privacy under their clothing.
The ruling overturned the convictions of Sean Glas and Richard Sorrells.
"Although Glas' and Sorrells' actions are reprehensible, we agree that the voyeurism statute, as written, does not prohibit upskirt photography in a public location," wrote Justice Bobbe Bridge, one of four women on the nine-member court.
Prosecutors said Glas apparently planned to sell to an Internet site photographs he took at a mall in Union Gap. He was arrested in 1999 when women he photographed spotted him crouching near them.
Sorrels was arrested at a Seattle food festival after witnesses told police they saw him videotaping underneath little girls' dresses. Police found images taken up girls' and women's skirts on his camera.
The ruling cited laws in other states, including California, that are tailored to outlaw such actions.
Douglas Ricks, Glas' attorney, said his client was obviously doing something wrong, but didn't break the law as written.
Glas served six months in jail for the voyeurism conviction. He is currently serving a four-year prison term for statutory rape.
A lawmaker said she planned to order legislation to close the loophole.

key sentence was the last one:
A lawmaker said she planned to order legislation to close the loophole.
I have to say though, that how do you not notice a man taking a picture or VIDEO up your skirt? Do you never look down? How does that work?
I mean it's one thing when it's like at the PR parade, where the men have cameras that they are using to tape video from BEHIND women (a reason that I had something wrapped around my waist when I went) and you can't SEE them, but this just sounds odd.
Too bad he didn't get arrested on charges of child pornography. Taking pics up little girls skirts to sell to porn sites fits the bill IMO.

They could sue for likeness rights. Beat at own game, much more better than laws.

I seriously could not beleive this when I read it int he papaer today. Normally my state is pretty good about making sure the law doesn't have loopholes like this but I guess we haven't caught all of them. I'm disapointed that this guys got away with his actions, especially since it involved minors, but I'm sure they are moving right now to change the working on the statute.

It may not have involved minors in a legal sense. . . usually states would not have missed that charge, thats usually a sweet sentence for prosecutors.
What is wierd is how clueless the guy was. If he had used little spy cams on his shoes or something he wouldn't have gotten caught. *shrug*
