Cool iGive.com for fundraising

I'm on the National Board for my sorority and fundraising is always a hot topic (especially in regards to getting alumna to contribute). While surfing the net and looking at another non-profit, I saw they had a link to http://www.igive.com in lieu of a standard donation link. Looking through the website, I decided to add my sorority on there as a cause. A couple of days ago I used the website to purchase a laptop and a pair of shoes and got a bit of surprise to see $14.40 raised for my sorority already. Although it doesn't sound like a lot, I personally do a lot of shopping online and so far, no one else from my sorority signed up fo an iGive account. So there's hope

Does anyone have any experiences with iGive? Do the remit the checks in a timely manner (I know it's only after you raise $25 or something and that they are sent out quarterly I believe). Any ideas or experience getting other group members to jump on the bandwagon?

Kind of an oldie but.... Bump

I am starting to use this site for my Alumnae chapter as a continual internal fundraiser. Does anybody have any tips on how well it works? I would love to get someone else's feedback...

We've been able to raise a little over $200 in two years. However our participation level has been low. We only have about 4 sisters who use the site regularly. So that comes to about $50/person with casual use.

One thing you do have to keep in mind with iGive is that there is considerable delay between when you do your shopping and when you get a check in the mail -- at least 90 days. It will come...but not right away. You have to have at least $25 accumulated in order to get a check; although your first one can be sent out even if you have less than $25 (as a teaser I guess).

It has the potential to raise a lot of money if a lot of people come on board though. And or if you have some members that are big time online shoppers.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I am going to give it a go. I sent a mass email out to promote it and put a banner for it on our webpage. I hope it works, I really, really want to see us reach Major Donor status for the ZTA foundation, and every little bit counts!

i think i got the idea to use iGive from this very thread. anyway my chapter started using it less than a month ago. we haven't quite hit $25 just yet but we're getting there. the tool bar is a little annoying but nothing I can't live with.
