gpa requirement

So, it was my first semester as a freshman in the spring and due to my depression and severe anxiety, I did BEYOND terrible. I still want to rush in August, and I would prefer not to rush as a sophomore. The gpa requirement is 2.5 to rush but I am well below that. Do you think I could send in my high school transcripts or do I have no choice but to wait... I will be beyond heartbroken if I have to delay this for next year

Once you enter college, that is the GPA that is used. Submitting your HS transcript would give you the appearance of being deceptive and you'd be found out really quickly. You don't meet the stated minimum requirement for recruitment. Don't waste your $ or time. You need to wait and pull up that GPA. I hope you are going to summer school.

Disappointment is tuition in the school of life.

Your school's PH will tell the chapters what your GPA is. So that ploy won't work. Rush the library instead.

Or retake the classes that you did "beyond terrible" ... if your school will let you do that.

I am sorry, but you are going to face that you will not be able to rush or pledge in August. The minimum to RUSH might be 2.5, but I assure you that no sorority will offer a bid to a girl with a GPA that low. Not unless you have extraordinary credentials, like an Olympic competitor, Miss America winner, or something else exceptional.

Wait.

You don't have the GPA. If you don't meet the minimum GPA to register for recruitment, either you won't be allowed to register at all, or you will immediately be cut from all chapters following open houses.

Focus on bringing your GPA up. Your total GPA (including this past spring and this upcoming fall) will be taken into consideration, and, if it's not at least a 2.5, you will be cut across the board. Once you've completed a semester at college, your high school GPA is irrelevant.

Also, if you're not already seeing someone for your depression and anxiety, please find a good therapist. Look beyond your school's medical center. You may benefit from a psychiatrist (who can prescribe drugs), a talk therapist, or both.

Above all, take care of yourself.

The good news is Step 1 is acknowledgement. While rush is not in the cards for this coming year, if you can do as ChioLu said and retake a course or 2 (as opposed to trying to improve your GPA through the weight of new classes), it will speed the recovery of your GPA. This summer would be an excellent time to get started on that. And as aephi alum said, absolutely do get all the help you need. Drugs are good (of the prescription variety of course) and talk therapy is good, but studies say both are better.

IF you can show dramatic improvement in your GPA, even if it's not quite up to snuff (you get to a 2.8 when they are likely looking for a 3.0), they MIGHT give you a pass next spring during informal if anyone offers it. But if you can only get it up to a 2.5, then sorority membership is probably not in the cards for you. That's not the end of the world. There are a lot of people who have perfectly legitimate, fun and rewarding college experiences without being sorority members.
