If there are officer manuals available on your website, you should read those. Also, ask the current occupant of the office about what the job entails. If you have time, shadow them. I encourage my officer candidates to submit applications in writing declaring their interest in the position many months in advance, then to gain a knowledge of the office by working with the current occupant prior to running. It has made transitions a lot less bumpy.
