Advice on an awkward situation

So here's my story- Didn't go greek during undergrad for personal reasons but always thought about it. Now I'm a grad student. Approached an NPC about AI and I'm somewhere along in the possible process. Now I've got the chance to join a collegiate chapter but I'm not sure how I feel about them (great girls but not really sure if I fit in) or if I should saddle them with an engaged graduate member. Any thoughts?

How can you join a collegiate chapter as an active member if you have a bachelor's degree? I'm assuming, since you are in Grad School, you have a bacheloer's

Some NPCs do allow Grad students. I'm not listing them out of respect for all orgs involved.

If you want to be an active sorority member, and get the fully collegiate sorority experience, do us all a favor and DON'T AI. PLEASE. It's not what that's for.

Yes, I understand. And please don't think I take it lightly. I'm having doubts since there is an org out there who wants me as a member and I feel like I'm turning up my nose at them. Even if exactly what I wanted was the full collegiate experience, I'm not sure I could step up and be a great member. I guess I'm concurring with most of what I've read about why grad students shouldn't (for the most part) be active members. Yes, it's a stupid situation.

First, they wouldn't have asked you to join if they didn't want you.
Second, why not talk to them about your limitations and their expectations? Couldn't hurt.

I just signed up to this site and this is my first post. Two questions, what are NPC's? And what is an AI and its purpose?

NPC = National Panhellenic Conference, the umbrella organization of 26 Inter/National Sororities

OP: Join the collegiate chapter. You will be a member for life, too, and have the best of both worlds.

Honestly, a lot depends on the person, the chapter, and the school. If it's a school where the 1000 rushees are 95% freshmen, no. If it's a school where they have to pull teeth to get people to rush and women from all classes join, I would say go for it.

But if you have a bad feeling about the group - like they just want you for sake of numbers or something - just say no.

Sorry to quote such an old post, but I'm curious -- what is AI for?
