Lightbulb 21st Century Education....

As you all know I am taking a course this summer. However, many of the days are traditional, then like 8 of the class periods are "online". We acutally have class on a discussion board, similar to this, via the university's website.

Our teacher has our chapter questions listed on the site, our quizzes are there as well, and the EXAM. We are to turn our projects "in" to a drop box on our class' page. This really tripped me out.

I was wondering has anyone else has had the opportunity to take/teach courses over the internet, distance learning, classes via satellite (classes are taught at xyz university, while you are enrolled in abc's university), etc.

Technology is truly something. You better not get left behind!

You ain't never lied! I was registering for classes last fall, and when I was signing up for a lit. course, my advisor asked if I would like the traditional or Internet classroom section. I was like, whaaa? He explained that you could do the whole course online and never have to set foot in a classroom. Sounded good to me, but my mama was convinced something would go wrong. I don't know anybody who did it, but I wonder how long it'll take before EVERYTHING academic is internet-based?

A good friend of mine took a few classes online for her Masters. It worked out well for her b/c the school she attended is like an hour away from her. So when she found she could take some of her required classes online, she jumped at it. And it didn't take her any longer to complete her Masters than it would have if she actually went to class for these courses. It definitely saved her a lot of gas money!

Well we have that at my school, but of course it is a large white school with many non traditional students. We have all of those things. I have taken an online class and I am going to take another one in the fall. It is so much easier. It is best for those who don't like going to class all the time. So as long as I have a computer or a VCR I am fine. My best friend is transfering to my school because she is having a baby and she didn't want to sit out a semester at her HBCU so she is going to take all of her classes online so she can still be home to take care of her baby.
