I have also been wondering about rush at Georgia Tech, as my niece is going though this fall. Is it as competitive as some of the southern schools?

I think if you are a well-qualified potential new member in terms of great grades, high school leadership and involvement, and being a cutie, it is relatively easy to join a group that you like at Tech.

I get the impression that most girls are very pleased with their results.

I'm excited to hear how Alpha Phi did for their first formal recruitment!

Bid Day! Pick up bids 1:30-3:30!

There is a student blog on the admissions page that tells a lot about greek life at Tech...here's another post on Bid Day.

A little something about the colonization of Alpha Phi....sorry, haven't heard anything about results yet!

GT Sororities

I am an out of state mom with a daughter going through rush at GT. Can anyone share information of the houses?

Who has the highest GPA?
Which girls throw the most parties? (yes, I am concerned!)
Most school/team spirit?
etc.

Thank You!

Wish I knew - he hasn't said anything and we're afraid to ask in case it's bad news. (My boss is kind of intimidating ...)

You may be able to find GPA stats on the school's site (although keep in mind, things like number of members and/or majors they are in can skew that a bit).

As for your other two questions, they are "reputation" questions and we really don't answer those on GC. There are going to be partiers in every sorority, just like there are going to be teetotalers in every sorority. Just trust that you've instilled values and responsibility in your daughter and that she will pick the group that best fits her.

Almost all sororities want to see good GPAs, both for the group and for the individual. Many people learn to party at the right time and study at the right time and do well.

I actually have a question. Does fraternity recruitment happen after formal sorority recruitment? I'm asking because I know there is at least one coed fraternity at Georgia Tech.

Fraternity recruitment is done today as well. They have parties every night, I think beginning right after the freshmen can move in. What is the coed fraternity? Funny, I've been a Tech parent for 5 years and never heard of it. There are a lot of fraternities at Tech. Lots.

Phi Mu took 41. I guess that was quota.
