Houses of Horror: Secrets of College Greek Life

As if we needed anything else right now...

Premiering May 27th.

https://www.aetv.com/shows/houses-of...ege-greek-life

Quote:
Houses of Horror: Secrets of College Greek Life” exposes the dark side of Greek Row and its impact on some of the young men and women who participate. Each episode features first-hand accounts of how the power, control, and secrecy of fraternities and sororities can create a cult-like dynamic leading to an environment where nefarious activity—from drug use to sexual assault—is able to thrive. Through exclusive sit-down interviews with those involved including former fraternity and sorority members, family, law enforcement and experts, the series details how these organizations that seemingly offer acceptance and community for young people have far-reaching consequences that can turn dangerous, and even deadly.

Over the course of six episodes, the series details a variety of first-hand accounts of the dark side of fraternity and sorority life at universities across the country. From a pledge at the University of Missouri hazed into drinking excessive quantities of alcohol that left him close to death, and a junior at the University of Minnesota who fought back against the Greek system after she was brutally raped by a fraternity brother, to a shocking set of overdose deaths at San Diego State University, and the infamous Machine, steeped in racist traditions of the Old South, at the University of Alabama, the series offers a far-reaching examination of how the seemingly fun and frivolous world of Greek life could hide a much darker underbelly.

Seemingly, used twice.

Frivolous.

Wow. Trump couldn't have put the greek system down any better.

Are there any television programs or series currently filming/in production that feature the MULTIPLE impressive, helpful and good works of INCREDIBLY TALENTED Greek-org members since the first fraternity came into existence 200 years ago?

The funny thing is this documentary is gonna be the usual drama filled stuff, and I think about how good the independent lens about hazing was. I wish more stuff like the latter would come out more often, or even the AKA history documentary that's on Amazon Prime.

Sensationalism sells. At the same time, if people weren’t literally killing each other with alcohol and hazing, there wouldn’t be anything to report. That stuff seriously needs to end.

The Independent Lens documentary by Byron Hurt (NPHC member) was probably the best we are going to get. He loves his Greek life experience, but was still able to be critical when things went way overboard in terms of hazing and violence

I highly recommend it!

I also recommend this one

https://www.amazon.com/Twenty-Pearls.../dp/B09KCL4CP3

It has members of AKA being interviewed and giving the overall history of their GLO. It's a great watch.

Just watch the documentary the History Channel did about 20 years ago. It was pretty good.

Funny another I enjoyed (though the framing with the Clinton scandal was awkward.) was the University of Iowa sorority rush documentary. While it certainly wasn't perfect, it was probably the most accurate depiction of rush I've seen in the media.

That one is good! But they were quite obsessed with cramming Bill Clinton in there wherever possible lol.

Thanks for the other suggestions; I will check them out.

Well sorry to bump the thread up but the show is out (you can use cable credentials to watch the full show.) I'm watching the first episode and my heart is already broken.

I’ve watched a few of them.

It’s not really new information or perspectives for anyone who has been around the GC Risk Management forum.

The one on the woman who died from an overdose was probably the most interesting/informative, considering the amount of drugs that are available today. And, while people can say that drugs have always been available…that’s true, but they weren’t nearly as deadly as they are right now

IMO the kids who were dealing on that campus would have been dealing even if they had never gone to college or joined Greek Life.
