thinking about rushing

Hi. I'm thinking about rushing for a fraternity, if it ends up being my thing. I have some questions about doing so, though. It's the middle of march here (Just got out of my last class before spring break), and all of the get-togethers are either exclusive to greeks, or you never hear about them. This makes me wonder how I'm supposed to get to know a group if they are so to theirselves. Someone told me you don't do that until rush, but how are you supposed to get to know someone in a week's time?

These are just some things I don't get, but if someone would like to enlighten me on this, I'd be more than happy to listen.

Hey SMSU,

You might start where you are now, on the internet. Nearly all national GLO's and manu local chapters have websites that give you an overview of their organization. You can typically contact the organization via email as well, if you are interested in joining and want more info.

Beyond that, I would contact your university's greek life advisor for info about the GLO's, and Rush Chairman contacts. Our greek advisor used to give us glowing recommendations when prospective students asked her which campus fraternity she would recommend joining.

Many houses have turned to a year-raound rush concept, which basically means that the brothers are always looking for new members. They should be helpful and receptive, if you let them know you are interested in joining.

Good Luck!

Are you friends with any fraternity men on your campus? If so, that could be a starting point. Have them introduce you to their brothers.

If not, explore their websites, talk to your Greek Life office, and above all, keep an open mind. A weeks time (for Rush) isn't much, but I've found that your gut instinct is nearly always right. If you click with a certain group, persue it!

Good luck!
