Thumbs up Phi Sigma Sigma Welcomes Gamma Lambda Back to the Pyramid

Elkridge, Maryland (October 28, 2005) – Phi Sigma Sigma Director of Extension Alicia Scott announces the recolonization of the Gamma Lambda Chapter at the University of Wisconsin – Superior.

Phi Sigma Sigma volunteers and staff recruited for the colonization in Superior from September 28– October 1, 2005. Pre-colonization public relations activities were led on campus by Membership Managers Lisa Wallace and Emily Kirchner. Extension Committee Member Michele Dominiak led the overall colonization effort with the following team members: past Director of Extension and current Advisory Board Member Lynn Coffey, Extension Committee Member Katie Vlietstra, Chapter Key Advisor Jordan Palmer, Membership Manager Emily Kirchner, and Membership Coordinator Carolyn Barley.

The colonization team made several presentations to interested campus women, sharing information on Phi Sigma Sigma’s core values, activities, programs, and membership responsibilities. Following two days of interviews, the team extended bids and the colony was formed.

The team was honored to be joined at an information session by founding Gamma Lambda Archon Trudy Bursesh Beckwith, who shared her special Phi Sigma Sigma experiences with potential members. This gave the women the opportunity to see that our international sisterhood means membership for a lifetime.

Colonization activities culminated with bid day and a pinning celebration. Special thanks go to our sisters from the Iota Zeta Chapter at the University of Minnesota – Duluth, who conducted the Preference Ceremony. Iota Zeta is pleased to be the colony’s Sapphire Sister Chapter.

“The women of the Superior colony are terrific – bright, outgoing, and very interested in making a difference on the UW – Superior campus and in the local community,” said Team Leader Michele Dominiak. When asked what they wanted the campus community to say about Phi Sigma Sigma, their responses included “we’ve changed the community by helping and volunteering,” “it’s a well established sisterhood,” “we’re an inspiration to all women,” “we’re fun,” “that we are an optimistic group of young women who have great leadership abilities and potential,” and that “Phi Sigma Sigma is the talk of the town.”

The colony has begun the Pathways program and elected officers. This is an exciting time for Phi Sigma Sigma internationally and at the University of Wisconsin – Superior! Messages of welcome can be sent to:

Phi Sigma Sigma’s Gamma Lambda Chapter was originally chartered at the University of Wisconsin– Superior in 1977. “The Fraternity is pleased to welcome our newest colony to the pyramid. Phi Sigma Sigma strives to return dormant chapters to our active chapter roll whenever possible, so the opportunity to return to the University of Wisconsin– Superior is very special,” Scott said.
