Thanks for posting the pic. I honestly had forgotten that this was the day.
Think I will play Beatles cd's for the kids in the library this afternoon.
Peace...

Several years ago, I did a small audio installation in Mick Jagger's home in Manhattan, and Mr. Jagger's assistant whom I was working with, was a former employee of John Lennon. He told me a story that is both amusing and unforgettable:
John Lennon lived on the Upper West Side for many years. Whenever he went out to do regular things, dressed like a regular person, he would get bombarded by people who had to get his autograph and speak with him. Sometimes he just wanted to read the newspaper in a coffee shop, just like everyone else. He finally figured out how to keep people away. He started to dress the way a John Lennon impersonator would dress; completely over the top. People just assumed that this was some pathetic guy who realized that he looked like John Lennon, and wanted to take advantage of this and get attention. Well, the joke was on those people because this really was John Lennon, and people were finally leaving him alone, and he was finally able to read the newspaper at a coffee shop in peace.

I remembered. I'm wearing black today. The world is a little less creative with the death of John Lennon.
I know a woman who spent several hours at the Dakota in August of 1980, wearing a sexy sundress & Candies. She actually got into the Dakota, and the Security Guard (after telling her that it would be hours before he came back, and then he'd go back to the studio) let her leave a letter to John & Yoko. She said that it was a very nice letter, thanking him for the joy he had brought through his music, and told them that if they're ever in Pittsburgh, let her know.
After Double Fantasy was released, and John was killed, a book on the day to day events in the last year of John's life came out. If you listen to the very end of "Starting Over" you hear "Love Airlines, Flight 12 - Pittsburgh" sounding like it's coming over a PA system. My friend visited the Dakota on August 12 - the day that they did the final cut of "Starting Over"!
So - many Beatles experts feel that was John's way of acknowledging her message!

I respect John Lennon not only for His Great Music, but for His Wish for World Peace. A great musician and a great Human Being.

I didn't even know that today is the anniversary of his death, that's why I was surprised to hear one of the local stations playing his music over and over again (they'll be doing this all day today).
I was only a year old when he died, so I didn't get to appreciate his music while he was with us. From the stories I've read and songs I've heard, I'm glad that his legacy still lives on in many of us.

There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends
I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
there is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

My sister dated John Lennon's God son a few years ago. He had some really great stories as well as several sketches that John Lennon had drawn.
